If a car with HD Radio that supports Traffic and Weather is tuned to your favorite LOCAL HD Music station, will it ALWAYS get the Local Traffic and Weather or do you HAVE to be on certain stations? If it depends on a station, then it could be a useless feature if you do not like the Music on that HD Channel. Am I missing something here?

Having misread the question, I gave a misleading answer, and withdraw it now that I have figured out what you were asking.

I'll be back later...

Navigation units that get data from HD Radio stations have their own tuner. They find the station with the data and stay there regardless of where you tune the radio. GM MyLink systems use weather and traffic data from SiriusXM Radio. Without a subscription to those services, the data will disappear.

Thank you both. So, if we get a car with an HDRadio that also says it has Traffic and Weather, then it does not matter what station we listen to? The NAV in these cars is not part of the radio system..

Not sure which car/suv yet. Thinking of 2015 models as some are going to include HD Radio. My wife has an SUV now and does not want to give HDRadio up. hdradio.com lists the features in new car hdradios.

Well, as mentioned above, the source for dashboard traffic and weather varies by make/model. But you should have no trouble finding one with an HD Radio option. Most of the major brands have it either standard or as an option.

She is looking at the 2015 Infinity QX60, but they have not announced it yet.

The Infiniti gets its traffic information from SiriusXM, not HD Radio. It's called NavTraffic and is a subscription service.
