I don't have HD radio so I don't know if this feature exists - is it possible for an HD station to broadcast their genre so that station searches can look for stations that fit particular genres? Would be useful for road trips.

Not yet I don't think. One of the things Ibiquity demonstrated at NAB a few weeks ago was an electronic program schedule.

That is available but is not widely used. Similar to the PTY information in RDS, but most stations aren't using it yet. Once more stations use it you will see that function in the new model of radios.

I am sure I saw "Adult Contemporary" or something similar come up while cycling through the data displays on one HD station on my JVC receiver. Now I will have to look again to be sure.

You probably did. That is part of the HD Radio text services, but not all broadcasters are currently using that and that is why the feature doesn't exist as of yet to search through them as you described.

We do have that on some of our Eurpoean models for their RDS and DAB services.

It is also possible that you saw the RDS/RBDS display from the analog part of the station before the HD locked on.
