Hello all,
It's been a while since I've ventured here, how have you all been?
I've recently been rocking JBL Pro's after I sold off ALL of my HT Gear. (Dual RLP-18 LLT.. identical to Scotts and many JBL home speakers )
I've recently noticed all of the DIY tapped horn alternatives, something that was not around a while ago. Are you guys all designing these now, or is there a set of plans? Only TH designs I've seen online before are the Bill Fitzmaurice dealios, but I refuse to order his plans.. his arrogance and rudeness to me on another forum has pushed me away.

My point is, are there any designs out there for a high output, high sensitivity sub? I'm looking at greater than 140db max output from around 30hz, or something with good usable output to 25hz. If a 15" is more size friendly then be it, but shoot if there's something that could match the TH-115 from Danley that's basically what I'm looking for

Thanks wise AVSers

Just DIY at TH-115ish horn. The real thing won't do 140dB at 30Hz though.

Similar to the TH-115 or (HWD - 24 in x 42 in x 33 in = dimension of JBL SRX728) but I'd turn vertical.
Weight isn't too much of an issue as I have crew to unload.

How much are you looking to spend? Is this for a single sub, or can you do multiples?

I want to build/have a pair built. I'll have around $2k to spend.

Download Hornresp and start designing. It has a neat TH wizard to make it easier.
Also look in the TH threads at diyaudio as there has been at least one modelling of the TH115 there. Use that to start.

Using two horns with the MTX T9515-04 driver you should be able to hit a clean 134dB from 25 to +100Hz in halfspace ~137dB max.

It will be close to your specified size. It might need to be downsized a little, which will suck a few dB away...

I'm looking at it now.

If you get Hornresp then just play with this OD horn.

EDIT: Posted the wrong file, just use this as starting point in a TH instead.

Glad to help in this small way, and I'll be interested to see what you come up with.

Here's the link to Hornresp and there is a thread just on the program where David responds to questions.

I thought I'd saved the Hornresp input page from the TH115 modelling but can't seem to find it ATM.

That's an extremely affordable driver, makes me think of having 4x of them..

It has a low xmax so you are limited extension wise. If you go with a corner around 40Hz like the TH-115 you can get into the mid 140dBs with four B&C drivers.

I posted a WIP OD version up above by mistake.

Just use the same inputs from the pic, but change it to a TH.

Attached is a hornresp record for a AV15-H 15" loaded in a front loaded 30Hz horn. You can give it 45V before reaching Xmax anywhere, and can give it more if you highpass at 25Hz, whereby without some cooling scheme, you'll probably start running into trouble heat-wise....

Size is under 400 liters, should fit your size requirements.

Such a tough decision. I had no idea that B&C drivers were so cheap.
I'm torn between making 4x (probably 2 to start with..) TH-115 replicas or building a pair of dual 18" (maybe 21"s hmmm) ported boxes.

I would skip the 18s. There are much better 15"s available.

Those B&C 21's are very nice though. They have 15mm of xmax. If you can take a larger enclosure you can get one of them the equal two of the ones I posted above. Think half a TH-221.
