Penn, you need to try some heavy metal orchestral pieces: Shostakovich, Mahler, Bruckner, and Sibelius will give you a good start.

That is the US version that DIYcable had shipped into the US a while ago, no need to have any other option here.

If you are interested the main company is here

http://www.hypex.nl

you can order from them directly. Euro has been dropping so maybe the Exchange rate is good now?

Ah, Mahler, I think I have heard of that one now that you say heavy metal orchestral.

Penn,
Did I just imagine that you were going to try a miniDSP?

Nope, I have 2 of those now and love it!! One is going to be used with my LMS5400 sealed subs, I can do a LT circuit with it.

My mains in my HT room are now 3-ways. These two plate amps will free up rack space and allow me to use one MiniDSP to handle my bass bins for my mains. Of course my current boxes are kind of useless now, I have to build new ones to fit the plate amp

I still have a CC to build too (some day) so I might have to find a 3rd AS100.2 at some point.

So Nope you weren't going to try, but yes you already have.
Gotcha.

Better than the 1124p?
No noise or hum issues like some people have with the 1124p?

lol, sorry,

Nope, you were not imagining it

The 1124 is not even close to what the MiniDSP has to offer. The DCX 2496 is what its replacing. Its a full active DSP solution XOs, filters, biQuads, etc.

There is no hum because there is no mixing of pro and consumer equipment causing ground issues between them.

Its all unbalanced, I can have a comletely normal setup again with all unbalanced (RCA) connections.

Great. Thanks. I'll go with that as soon as it's back in stock then.

Penn,

Does one MiniDSP 2x4 support a stereo pair of 2-ways in active XO duty?

Thanks Penn,

Will have to try one out when the RevB is back in-stock.

Was just skimming the user manual for these Hypex amps, boy these things are going to be better than I expected. I didn't know you could import the individual components frequency response measurements and basically model the XO and final response right there in the software. That and it looks like it can perform as 3-way active XO if you use self powered bass bins.

For now I plan to build them into a separate box with SpeakOn connections for testing purposes. I wonder if the face plate could be adapted to PowerCon connectors without too much hassle.

I have not read a lot of the details on how then can do a 3-way active XO with my self powered bass bins, that would be nice. I assume they just have a line out feature that can work as the 3rd channel.

The DSP functionality is definitely there, I was impressed a long time ago when I learned about them.

I will have lots of time to figure it out. Getting new boxes built is going to take awhile. Im not home much over the holiday season

From what I read it has a 3rd channel "Sub Out" RCA jack. You can switch the output between split L or R, or combined L+R.

From the manual

Quote:

Filter Definition Area
The three channel tabs, labelled Tweeter, Woofer and Subwoofer are functionally identical. The
top left frame is used to import response files. The select button opens a file. The show
checkbox turns display of the measured graph on or off. The Common Settings box controls
global gain (for each channel), delay, and the visibility of plots.
The amplified channels have up to 12 biquads, selected using the Biquad Section radio
buttons in the middle. The Subwoofer lineout has only 6 biquads sections, for only simple filter
settings. To the right is a settings area specific to the type of function selected. Unused
biquads are set to unity.
The selected biquad is edited by selecting a function and setting relevant parameters.
The delay has a maximum value of 1000us for channel 1 and 2. The subwoofer channel does
not include any delay. Distance is calculated by soundspeed/delay=distance, maximum
distance is therefore 340,29meters/0,001secondes=34,029cm. Note that the minimum stepsize
is 0,708cm cause the sample rate of 48000.

Did anyone ever end up using the PSC2.400 in a build? I'm thinking about it. All of the other high power 2 channel plate amps are a lot more expensive.
