How much, post some specs so we can model it up against some of the other drivers out there.

My thought is two 18" instead, if you have room and the cost is right.......

Technically it seems that all they have going for them is high power handling from the huge VC.

xmax, Qe, and efficiency are nothing special, and the price is high at >$400

But maybe they sound really good, but you can get very similar spec's from the Eminence Lab 12 for $160, or maybe the Peerless XLS12

Usable Frequency Range of the Morel is 10-900Hz where as Eminence Lab 12 has 25-125Hz. So the Morel go really deep and this is why I have been considering 4 Morel which is better than 2x "18" Subs 4x "12" is 48 of. This Subwoofer bass.I wanted to find out if anyone has experienced with Morel in a HT. I use one Morel "12" in my Car.The bass is dry and very hard, no wobbling of the bass.

Why or when would you use more than 125hz with a sub if you have any mains at all?

Localization will be a problem when in the upper frequencies, no?

That's a lot of money for a "sub" that only has 12.5 mm of xmax.

If you want to hit 10Hz with any gusto in a home theatre you will need a bigger sub.

Agreed, you could get a pair of Shivas for about the same price as one of the Morels, and there are other options too, the Shiva was just the OTTOMH suggestion.

Yin, not seeing at all what the point is in having great HF extension in a sub. You're going to roll it off circa 80Hz or so anyway.

And as others have stated to get 10Hz at any sort of useful level, you're going to need a lot more volume displacement than 4 of those Morels can give you.

The Morel has no more usable bass at 10 Hz than the Lab 12.

"Usable" is a matter of opinion, not a spec.

I've heard car audio nuts say these sound very nice. I tell them to get some Supremo tweeters so they can be sure they paid top dollar for everything

I'd actually like to hear them someday, iirc they take a rather large box sealed (large for a 12).

It not just the surface of the drivers , it's the stroke, so while the surface area of the 12's is more, you have to see what their range motion is and 12mm isn't going far at 10hz.

I run quad 15's with 36mm of stroke each and 10hz gives them a run for their money.

Welcome to the forum, and I hope this all helps you. The DIY guys won't steer you wrong. All good intensions

One more thing on the 12's...... If you are going sealed and 10hz is your goal you will need either a digital or analog L/T to extend the rolloff. I'm thinking they will probably need all of 24db of boost or extension as in the BASSIS.

Well, you asked, you received good advice, and ultimately it's your money to waste as you see fit.

1. Just don't look at the posted stats.

2. As far as the Morel 12" you're using in your car... since the Morel subs are mobile audio subs, they are made to take advantage of what's called cabin gain. Google cabin gain for details.

3. Since this is a mobile sub, there's absolutely no gaurantee that it's going to perform well inside a home especially down to 10hz. Multiples might help along with ALOT of power but if you want 10hz, these Morel's are just a horrible waste of money, plain and simple!!

With all of the knowledge floating around on this forum and some of the GREAT suggestions, you still go ahead and order the subs?!?!? Good luck with that choice...

Neo, I think that he's too hung up on the following:

Name Brand: Only but the best metality... think Bose
Posted TS Parameters: He's just looking at the numbers
High Cost: How can lower priced no name brand subs perform better than the more expensive, name brand sub?!??!

Then again, it could very well be that since he's using a Morel 12" in the car, he thinks that getting 4 of those same subs will equal greatness in the home. You, I and everyone else on this forum know that he's not going to get to 10hz with his choice.

Looking up the price of these subs, I found them for $600 each. He may be getting them for less but at $600 x4... The amount of DAMAGE any one of us could do dumping that amount of cash in a sub system for a HT is staggering!!!

Basically it works out like this:
If you have a sealed box that's flat in car it will be ~24dB down at 10Hz in the house.

Yin probably didn't bother to drag his existing sub in the house for a listen.
Yin could have modeled his existing sub vs the new drivers to see what it was going to take to satisfy the 10Hz requirement.
Yin probably thinks we are all direct descendants of Forrest Gump
