So there might be a flat pack kit that comes out that for that design, but not be titled as such. We're working through it. The estate interest digs deep into some of this I think, but I'm not really sure.

I'll personally purchase at least two Sealed Statement kits so add me to the list.

Just hope the AE AV15X come back soon. I need to mount the Sealed Statements on bass bins. Is the 15" sub flat pack just going to be a scaled down version of the 18"?

damn that is really nice the way everything notches together. looks a lot more elegant as opposed to the "lets put full sheets of mdf then cut them up into swiss cheese" style bracing

Count me in for two 18" seal sub flat pack (if it materializes) .

You'll rarely hear anyone say, "I wish I'd gotten less Sub."

I just assumed if there's enough people who would want one, it'll be done. Is there a reason not to? The whole point of this thread is to let Erich know what we want and he'll determine if it's viable to get some made. Again, like the Sealed Statements, I'd have to get at least a pair of 15" sub flat packs. I'm sure we can easily get enough people for 50 15" sub flat packs.

I think there's going to be a dual opposed 18" as well as 15" also. But those might take a bit longer since the design on those haven't been posted yet.

It will happen. I just need to get back in contact with notnyt to see if we can better utilize 5x5 sheet sizes.

Personally I think $149 for a design that takes 2 sheets of Baltic is very good.

We've never been dead set on the bracing and we discussed the fact that it could add to the CNC machine time with the 'shelving' idea. A slightly different bracing system could reduce machining.

Once we figure it out to get a good mix of bracing and machine time/cost, then it can be used in many future projects. Notnyt is a master at CAD work and I'm convinced we'll get there. I personally like the current bracing, but maybe the box dimensions can be altered for the 5x5 Baltic.

But I promise, if this can be done at a good price, I'll get it done. It doesn't have to be a Group Buy necessarily. If it seems like enough interest, and figure they'll eventually get used, I don't mind doing it, I have the storage space so why not. The 18" will be a 'Go'. Just have to nail out the design for the 5x5 sheets versus 4x8 sheets, UNLESS there's a demand for a heavily braced mdf model.

I can probably get 2 cabinets out of 3 5x5 sheets. I'll see what I can do.

Eric, Is that $149 + the cost of the Baltic, no?

That's the completed estimate Penngray....including the Baltic birch.

But as mentioned above, those were rough estimates that he really didn't want to give me yet. He thought the rabbet joints might increase that somewhat. If you remember on the Anarchy kit, they cut letters in all the panels and pilot holes where needed, but it didn't change the end price that much. Obviously the rabbet joints here are much longer, so who knows. But it's a good sign.

I'd love to come up with a taller design that could be used for dual 10's or 12's, but also allow for a single ported 12 or 15. Still working on that. Then we'll get to the sealed 15.

wow...that's an amazing price. the wood alone is about $100.

just for fun, i contacted some local cabinet makers in my area for a speaker project i am working on and he quoted me $272 for a roughly 21"x"16"x14" box with no bracing. what a rip off.

They were trying to tell you they didn't want to do it, but would if you'll pay through the nose.
Pretty normal procedure for any moderately busy shop.

Or in my case, just completely ignore me even though I was willing to pay double through the nose. At the time, I was willing to fork over $750 for a simple 2' cube box properly braced BB box with cheapo veneer or just some paint. But luckily they ignored me because an incredibly nice forum member contacted me about purchasing his pair of his beautifully self built LMS 5400s.

Any possibility of the Statement center as well? I built the ported statements but would love a sealed set for surrounds and a center.

Cool thread ... have been thinking more and more about some sort of WAF DIY speaker project that would best my Sig bookshelves and CC, but don't have the time to do the cutting/designs. Would be nice to see some efficient designs that have WAF. IIRC the Statements are fairly innefficient?

Sorry for the delay and lack of response, but I've fit the 18" flat pack onto a single sheet of 60x60 baltic birch with ease. Info has been sent to erich.

They initially said it would take 2 sheets. There might have been too much time pass before we tried to correct it and missed our window. I sent them your cut sheet that showed it could fit on one panel. But I didn't have the whole box redrawn to new dimensions. Never heard back. Maybe he got aggravated, who knows! Maybe they didn't have time to figure all new dimensions if they were changed a little, not sure.

Big companies can do the work for cheaper, but I don't think they want to spend too much time figuring out designs for such a small number being cut.

I asked them to let me know how much their CNC bit removed between panels and asked if they cut all the edges off the sheet before starting. That would give us a better idea what size each panel could be.

I didn't push back with more emails because of the information about the Maelstrom possibly not getting produced. That leaves one 18" subwoofer for this design, so now I'm not sure it should remain at the dimensions it's at. I'd have to order at least 50 or 100 boxes, which is no big deal, but how many people buy the TC Sounds 18" at the new price?

What other 18's are there that would get used now? Kinda stinks.

Any ideas?

I think what might have made it worse was me sending the Statement Monitor drawings around the same time. Those look a bit complicated. I was hoping another member could draw the panels up in a PDF format so that each panel is laid out showing all dimensions straight on. But they were busy at work. I simply can't do that type of computer drawing or I would draw up a lot of them. I've tried to learn how to do it, but I don't have enough time to train myself right now. And I know most other people are busy with their own projects. So I can't blame anyone except my own lack of computer drawing skills and CAD ignorance. If I could do it, I'd send 5 jobs in every week to multiple CNC companies......but I stink at it!

Erich,

Have you seen Curt's webiste? http://www.speakerdesignworks.com/Statements.html

He has the CAD drawings for the sealed statements. And recommend (efficient) cuts from 4x8 sheets. Is this what you're looking for? The driver cutouts should be the same for the monitor or the sealed statements.

Got specs?

I'm as interested as the rest of us....but I have seen nothing on them.

Probably won't work for a flatpack though - simply too much box to ship.

....

As far as 18s, there are a few pro drivers (B&C, RCF) that will do very well in a ported cabinet, but the tune might need to come up a touch. They are not cheap, but do cost less than the TC LMS Ultra.

Why not look in a box for pro drivers too as MBM. A 5-6cuft box that can meet, more or less for decent performance. For example, take offerings from JBL, Eminence, Peavey and etc. Drivers that would work well in a 5-6cuft box. Heck, some work great in 3cuft.
