Hello. I have a Signet sp 200 15 inch sub whose driver no longer works. Since they have gone under I was wondering what type of driver could replace it. It's 24w by 20h by 18d. The cutout radius is 14 inches exactly with 8 inch mounting depth. I purchased it used some time ago and would like to get it up and running again. The built in amp is a Bash a-300 if that has any bearing on what type of driver to use.

Okay let's try this. Can anyone recommend a good 15 driver with a bolt hole diameter of 14 1/2 and no deeper than 8 inches.

Are you sure it's the driver and not the amp? Or a loose or broken internal wire? In my experience drivers seldom just stop working without a good reason, like relentlesly bottoming them.

Slapping a random driver into a box specced for another driver is fairly sure to produce less than great results. However the Mach 5 here looks like it will at least fit the hole correctly.

Thank you for your reply. It's most definitly the driver as we hooked up a 10 inch sub driver and it worked. Since Signet has gone under and i would really like to try to get it going again. I thank you once more for your advice.

Knowing the volume of the box, whether it's ported or sealed and how much power the amp gives are all important to know when choosing a driver. Parts Express has a pretty good selection of drivers to choose from...

It's two feet wide 20 inches high and 18 inches deep. It has two port holes on the bottom on either side of the driver. It was used for nearfield shake your bones use. The amp says Bash a-300 so 300 watts into 8 ohms possibly.

How long are they and what is the diameter of each?

That has a somewhat different meaning in this section.

The ports are 11 depth 4 width . I would love to see a double entendre made with that one .

I can't find a decent tuning with that driver / ports / box combo, but I didn't spend long on it. You'd be better sealing it and adding some EQ to taste via something like the MiniDSP.

I have a Velodyne sms 1 so that should help . There's and old saying that goes " To ask is to look foolish once " "To not ask is to look foolish forever " Now having said that I'm wondering what to look for in a driver specifically the bolt hole diameter. As I said in a previous post I noticed the bolt hole at 14 1/2 and cutout at 14 exactly. Does anyone know of a driver that fits that description ?

No experience with it personally, but it might be OK.

The reason you're not getting a lot of replies is that the hole and PCD are about the two least relevant parameters for a sub, except of course allowing it to fit.

A driver and an enclosure are a tuned system, especially when ported. Just shoving any driver in 'because it fits' will almost certainly get you a waste of money. I suggested one because I'd been looking at it that day and recalled the dimensions looked right. Putting the driver Thiele Small parameters into a simulation program (Unibox in my case) didn't get very far as the driver doesn't work well in a ported box that small with those ports. Tuning is too high and peaky.

Unless someone else shows up and suggests a driver, I'd be downloading WinISD and trying some drivers in it from say the PE catalogue, starting with the Daytons and maybe the Eminence LAB15. Then ask for help. You can read dimensions as well as anyone else and few will have the inclination to scour a catalogue for you.

There are WinISD tutorials about, so google and see what you come up with.

Dude you must be psychic ! The Lab 15 is the one I'm looking into . The other part of my last message showed complete laziness in finding a quick solution to the problem . I sincerely like to thank you for your time and patience with my requests as well as putting me on the path to solving the problem myself Learning never ends.

I'm more than happy to help with modelling and you learning from that, but it's a lot of work to look for a driver, and then do that.

I threw the LAB15 in Unibox using 95L net and your 2 4" diameter x 11" long ports and it looks good. But, the tuning is high at 35Hz and it won't have a lot of output as Xmax is only 12mm.

The curves attached are for the 300W you indicated the plate amp could do.
Have a look, ask questions and I'll get back to you tomorrow as I had a long day today.

Sealed, all else identical, and last is a FR comparison.
