Thank you, Erich! That is exactly the answer I was looking for. It really is the neo magnet that makes it look so dinky. Damn do they sound great though!

I know ATMOS is not out yet but wondering how V8/V10's might work for ceiling speakers?

Figures...

Sounds like more than four? Future proofing, or did you get some info at your atmos demo?

If the Atmos speakers don't need to get down to 80hz, a sealed Volt-8 might work in a smaller box, or maybe even a Volt-6.

Could one mate the 14"x14" baffle with a 9" depth box. Not use with an angled install, but flat for ceiling so is 14x14x9?

Nah I was going that route well before going to the demo in Burbank last week.

Lol there is no future proofing. There will always be something new but in all seriousness the home version of Dolby Atmos (no word on DTS's UHD spec) is capable of 24 channels at ear level and up to ten overhead. Yeah I'm good. No more than 9.1.6 is all I think I'd ever do. I'd just fill in the blank spaces with subwoofers.

Definitely.

Direct from Dolby... 180hz is the bare minimum requirement for overhead channels. Though I would recommend anything to be just as "full range" as the rest of ones surround speakers for proper timbre.

Why not? Sounds fine to me.

Just whatever comes with the kit, Wil.

Looks like it is a Denovo DNA-150. I'm sure it's fine enough for the job. Gotta start somewhere. Would be a nice upgrade from my Emo ERD-1's.

I'd get the slanted cabs and I think all the cabs on DIYSG for the 10 are sealed anyway.

Pretty interested in them as well. Bang for the buck! Good thing too cuz I'm going to need at least three pairs. Four pairs if I'm doing a full 4ch overhead for Atmos but that's down the road a bit.

Thread reclamation post:

Got the completed beyma design up and running this weekend. Did a little head to head against the stock XO and the top end is noticeably not as bright, which brings out a very good overall sound out of the speaker. Ran to about +4 and still didn't hear any signs of breakup. I have a video that I will post up, as well as some pics, just haven't had time yet. Bottom line, this is a serious performer.

I was just thinking about doing this as well. I am about to build a baffle wall for an AT screen and want something that is relatively shallow so that the baffle wall does not go too deep into the room. I am trying to limit the depth to one foot so a 9" box depth would be great.

I just ordered 4 of the 10" with the surround flat packs. I am first going to run them in 4 channel mode with a phantom center to decide if I want to use them for my LCR as well.

If I decide to use them as LCRs I will most likely go with the 14"x14"x9" box. Also considering using the surround flat pack for the L and R, jut laying them on their side so that they point in towards the MLP.

I like the idea of having all the speakers the same, but not sure is these will be up to the task for LCR duty or not. It seems like most of the fusion speaker flat packs are too deep for what I have planned with the exception of the 8".

Has anyone tried the 10" coaxials mounted directly into the ceiling? I read an article wrote by an Eminence engineer that used these mounted in the ceiling for surround duty. He seemed please with them in his setup, but being employed by Eminence would likely give him a biased opinion about their performance.

Currently using Emotiva ERD-1's for side and rear surrounds. They sorta keep up with my new mains but .... not really plus I want to move away from the bipole/dipole nature and go to coax. Should be a nice upgrade.

I just went through the entire 30 pages in search for more info for the V-10 ported with "low" tune. Other folks also asked about it, but I don't see any numbers? I'd prefer like approximate 1.5 cu feet volume with about 50 Hz tune. There's no substitute for cubic inches...

Thanks...

I think you could get to that with 1.5 cuft. I am measuring out my new sealed 1.0 cuft triangular box hopefully this evening or weekend to see how it fairs vs the smaller .6 cuft box it was in earlier but 80hz was near the corner and the drivers could be EQ'd for a little more extension. I have the ability to pop a port in if I wanted to, but don't find it all that necessary for surrounds, and my real estate for port length is a little limited unless I wire to make a side firing port which I am not all that big of a fan of. Form factor is quite nice though once it is up in the corner however:

^ These look cool.

I ordered 8 of the Beta 10CX locally (to avoid the expensive shipping) and hope that Erich supplies me the rest. I think to build 4 of them sealed for overheads (ceiling mount) and the other 4 ported for surrounds. As these will not be wall mount, I want to make sure they can go way lower than the crossover all by themselves. BTW, I love big speakers... If I were a millionaire, I'd just buy PMC BB5i. I'm not, but I still build crazy stuff!

I am sure Erich can provide you some DNA150's and XO parts. I was able to buy 5 DNA-150's from him a while ago for cheap. I think I may order another6-8 again. I am waiting to order some 8CX's locally if I can find them cheap enough but may have to order outside the country like usual.

I don't know, he wouldn't do that for me. I have inquired directly and his response was that all the parts are already packed to ship together, so no dice.
