In the event any of you enjoy outdoor snow sports and are into watching a movie filmed on the same cameras as "planet earth" but with some of the world's best backcountry snowboarders, I HIGHLY suggest "The art of Flight" which just came out this week from quicksilver/red bull.

The soundtrack is incredible, the shots of alaska and mountains are absolutely breathtaking, and the guys that are hucking these 80 foot gaps are doing things that havent been seen before...

Did I mention the whole thing was shot on the Planet Earth cameras.

It really is a must see!

It is definitely worth the 30 bucks for the Blu/DVD combo set. Very hard to find already though.

This film deserves a LOT more attention on these forums. I just watched it last night and this is now my go to demo disc ! ! !
Fantastic LFE rocking soundtrack and just spectacular scenery !
Figure this is a movie that should impress just about anybody
( Note :it does have some swearing and one bloody scene so screen it before showing your kids )
If your curious at all about it go to best buy they're using clips from it to demo the TV's.

PS - Im not a snowboarder matter of fact Im 57 yrs old but man these guys and this film are awesome !

Got a chance to see this at CES at the Dolby booth with the engineer demonstrating the 7.1 soundtrack. The filming is spectacular. Sounded superb and it was a must have. Though my skiing and snowboarding days may be behind me I still love these movies.

i wish this was in 2.35 format so we could really take advantage of it with our 2.35 screens. this would be excellent demo material, but @16:9 it just doesnt fill the screen to make jaws really drop.

Just watched the first ten minutes. LOOKS amazing. Had to stop since I have no subs and I was wondering what I was missing.

Great find!

Watched the first 20 minutes and loved it. I am waiting for my good friend to come over to finish the movie. He is an active snow boarder and also helps me setup my audio endevours. On a side note that helicopter pilot has some serious flying skills.

For sure on the heli pilots. Guess you gotta have that type of skill to fly a RedBull chopper. Make sure to visit the extras, there are a lot of them and there are some awesome/funny scenes to be had there

I'm not at all into snowboarding or snow skiing, but watched The Art of Flight on blu-ray this morning and found the video and audio both to be totally spectacular! I thought the avalanches might throw off a little more bass than they did, but I'm not complaining because there were plenty of good bass tones elsewhere. The package seems a little expensive at $26, but I don't regret purchasing it. On the other hand, it would have been nice to spend less by having the option to purchase the blu-ray disc alone, without the dvd copy.

FYI The soundtrack and all audio was done at the SkyWalker ranch with help from the Dolby Engineers. For the Finale, they use an old song by Hum, which was also used in an early 90's Transworld snowboarding movie. I've wondered if maybe they put the song in on purpose for that reason, because I'm pretty sure I may be the only one in the world who made the link...

I was getting my content for the HT tour a few of us in Omaha are hosting and Art of Flight is one of my demos....

19 minutes in, the guys jumping off the ramp where they go slow-mo....

If you have the system to do it....AWESOME ULF. Pretty much just pressure waves. Awesome stuff.

Nah, make it two. I started touting this film the NIGHT it was released. I actually went as far as buying it on Itunes until my digital copy came but I practically beat myself into submission to only watch the Itunes version upstairs on the Sammy, and NOT watch it in the theater until I had the BD version smile.gif I still watch it every couple of weeks, just insane quality and this time of year it really gets my hyped for the shreddin' season.

jonathanc you just insulted one of the top recording studios in the world, and every movie they have ever helped produce. Which is pretty much every movie you have ever bought/watched... eek.gif such as:

Tell me that you have at least visited one of these places, and looked George Lucas directly in the eyes and told him you were dissatisfied with the way he conducts his recording studios and the resulting products that flow out of it. biggrin.gif

I have only owned this Blue Ray a week and think I have watched more than any other blu ray I own. I can just pop it in for a few minutes and watch a segment when I have a few minutes to kill. Love the music, the cinematography, etc.. The opening chapter in Alaska and from Chapter 7 through the end of the film are AWESOME!!!
