Probably not, no. I think the deadline is there because he has to get X amount of parts in bulk from china, and if he keeps it open he would delay that process. Maybe he could close this current group buy tomorrow and open up another one that also needs 50 people.. but not sure how that works or if john wants to do that

I think all you need to do is pick the frame size now. That might buy you a couple weeks to hash out which specific model to go with. Not 100% sure on this...

I don't know that it has been tested or used with hf drivers. This is definitely a concern of mine when using compression drivers. It doesn't take much amp hiss to be severely annoying with a 100db+ sensitivity driver. I've never used pro amps on a CD.

also i plan on using 4 ohm TD15Ms with inuke1000, or would it be in my best interest to go for an 8ohm just in case the impedance likes to drop too much on the 4ohm versions

I guess it would be an extra $50 which would nearly be a wash when you account for cabling and enclosure if you are referring to the balanced unit. You do reduce the risk of a ground loop problem with contained DSP. Either way will work.

I'd probably go with something like the Dayton DTA-100a for $100 on the HFs. It is likely to have a lower noise floor than the cheap pro amps. The chipamp used in those is well known. The iNuke 1000 would be more well suited to the woofer portion. Then use a MiniDSP for the crossover.

These amps will be able to drive either the 4ohm or 8ohm versions. If you go 4 ohm, you likely lose the ability to try a passive design at some point in the future. Someone might design something for a 4 ohm driver, but it is not as likely as for a 8 ohm driver.

I don't see any advantage of the 4ohm over the 8ohm to be honest even in active.

Drivers ordered...

Did anyone else order the TD18's with the Apollo upgrade? John mentioned needing a few in order to have the vc's made for the 18 otherwise it is expensive. Hopefully some of you other guys did. If not and you ordered the 18's consider asking for the upgrade so we can try to get enough to have it done!

Well this is what Iam doing ordering (3)TD15M, but I need to decide on the bottom end. Either dual TD15H or a single TD 18 for the bottom end.

Size is begining to be an issue. The sealed Seaton kit is 20W 30H..correct?

What I dont know is the size of the box needed for dual 15's sealed or ported?

same thing for the single TD18..sealed and ported?

These will be used for home theater.

I caught up with John briefly this morning regarding my OEM drivers and we briefly talked about the TD group buy... The orders in thus far are well above his projections. There will be no extension, as he needs to get all the steel on order and in process to get these delivered in a timely fashion as he already has to increase the previously projected part order quantities. If there are any later deals to be had between now and the last group buy drivers being delivered, it will not be at this level of savings.

thanks. that make sense.

however, i like the sealed design more. easier to build, and help with excersuion.

but .725 cf seems too small. can i fit the TD12M in that box?

I really do not think you can push the TD12M low at all in a sealed design, I couldn't.

If you want 80Hz or better performance you need to port it or go with the TD12S.

I never pushed them but 120Hz was around the XO point. I guess 80Hz is a okay if you limit the max SPL.

What room gain is that high??

The Apollo option costs $100 across the board last time I checked. I believe John said it would cost an extra $10-20 on top of that for the group buy.

The apollo upgrade is the same standard $100 for any of the TD10,12,15. The discount percentage applies to that as well.

Additionally, although not a standard option, the upgrade can be done on a TD6 or TD18. The cost for the aluminum apollo plates is similar, $100 for the 18 and $75 for the 6. The discount percentage applies to that as well. However that requires a custom VC as well which isn't stocked. There will be a $20 fee for a custom VC for those drivers.

So as an example, the TD18H is normally $449 and the apollo upgrade would be $100. That is $549 and with the discount $384.30. Then add the $20 custom VC charge so it would come in at $404.30.

Is there any audible advantage to the appollo upgrade for everyday in home music/HT purposes?

I'd imagine it's more relevant for pro audio application? Also how long do I need to wait for my invoice? I ordered last night.

Maybe John can post why anyone would buy the upgrade and what its purpose is.

From all my reading on the topic, the Appollo upgrade are for those pushing this driver to its Max SPL limits. Normal home operation would have zero benefits from the Apollo upgrade.

FWIW, I had TD12S apollo upgrades and standard TD12S. There was zero difference between them for any of my applications.

Ricci spending $$ on the upgrade because its a live application where higher SPL is required.
