So, I've had my TC3000 15" for a few years now, totally love it, however I need more.. my living room is approx 15x30x9, also opens to hall and kitchen area, so there is a lot of room to fill up..
At present my system is configured as such:
Yamaha RX-V2700 (planning on getting the Aventage 2010 sometime soon here!).
Definitive Technology LCR and S (7004's for L/R, 2500 for C, 1.2x's for surround).
Sub pre out is running straight to my Crown XLS 602D, which is bridged mono to the TC3K wired for 8ohm. Sub is in a 3.5' sealed box.
I also, just ordered a miniDSP today, so will play around with that once it arrives and I have the time. yes, I have never had eq on the sub!
Here is what I was debating:
1). I'd like to not use up a ton of space for another 15". So I was thinking, a pair of 12"s, but I'm not sure this would be ideal. not to mention the cost of purchasing a pair of decent subs, but also cost and labor (time) of building two cabinets. I'm no Norm Abrams, but I can build. so isn't an issue there, more a time constraint thing, since my job has me traveling 90% of the month.
2). I also thought about getting one of the TC axis 15"s.. I havent looked, but I am assuming these are pretty close to matching the TS params on the TC3K I have, and hence would just be a matter of building one identicle cab to what I have now, which would take up a ton more room.
3). IB - would love to go this route, just not ideal for me at present.
Now, if I did consider the dual 12"s, I'm not even sure what drivers to look at, I love TC Sounds products, but I'm hesitant to spend over 400 bucks on a pair of axis 12"s, if a 15" axis is only 500 bucks, and would sound identicle to the TC3K I have....
RE amplifier power - the 602d is sort of a concern - its not supported for bridged 4ohm loads, nor 2ohm loads unbridged. so things can get tricky with another quad coil sub. I was debating a 1000w plate amp for this new "project" but still undecided..
thoughts? am I crazy? do I make any sense?
