Thanks for letting me use the amp Mike!

Which FACE amp and how does it sound compared to the LG? Are you all level matched?

What is a FACE amp? Is it as powerful as the Clone?

Glad to see you at least have them all jumping!

Sorry man, i dont recall which amp it was. I'll check when I get home.

It's a little tough to compare the 2 amps because they are hooked up to 2 different pairs of subs. The FACE was powering the newer, not yet broken in set of subs, so it really wasnt an apples to apples kinda thing.

FACE is the brand of amp, not as powerful as the clone but it does a really nice job.

It is a Face Audio F1150TX and all 4 LMS Ultra's running at the same time was insane. Of course we didn't turn down the subs so it was 6db hot but we were not scared.

We connected the Face amp to the top enclosures and the clone was on the bottom pair. It was just a quick comparison and we level matched the amps but we didn't get too technical. The subs on the bottom are going to have an advantage due to boundary reinforcement of the floor, the top subs are almost 2 feet higher so they lose the gain from the floor by being higher up.
I was hoping to compare the amps on the same pair but it wasn't easy to swap out the cables as the Face uses Speakons only and the clone only has binding posts.

It definitely was an experience, I even stood in front of the subs and could feel the pressure which was intense. My ears popped a few times as well from the pressure that was being produced in Eric's room. It didn't even seem like the LMS were moving a ton for the amount of bass that was in the room, it was crazy fun.

in a room 15 x 21 with 9 feet high ceilings. The seats 14 feet from the front wall. What db could 4 of these LMS ULTRA 18'S GIVE YOU DURING MOVIES? I have 3 Danley dts 10's and hit 120 db but they are not calibrated. To satisfy my needs I would say I need around 125 db and not worried that the driver will blow. I appreciate you guys comments.

Just doing a quick WinISD graph is shows 125db at about 20hz with 4 LMS Ultra sealed and 12,000 watts of power. Your still hitting 120db @ 15hz, 112 @ 10hz, 101 @ 5hz and that is not taking into account room gain or boosting the low end. Depending on room gain and boost down low 125db seem reasonable down to about 15hz or so. In either case it will be an assault on your senses and that loud I would suspect some of your guests getting motion sickness, no joke.

I've never wanted to get sick so bad... If 4 Ultras can make you sick, 8 should be able to induce some bowel movements, maybe?

where is the cheapest / best place to buy LMS ULTRA 18'S like what you guys are using? Also I have 2 Crest pro 9200 amps:
8 Ohm Stereo - 1300 W
4 Ohm Stereo - 2200 W
2 Ohm Stereo - 3250 W
4 Ohm Bridged - 6500 W
If I were to do 4 of these subs exactly as the OP in this thread could I use my crest 9200 amp and run 2 subs on each amp at 4 ohm stereo? 2200 watts at 4ohms.

I know you guys like the clone amps because of the power. Since I already have these amps should I keep them or sell them in favor of the 2 clone amps? How much db would I be giving up?

3db if you were going to give them the full 4,400w from a 14k clone but honestly, I think you're better off with ~2kw into an LMS-U. No need to neuter these beasts with a high pass filter.

My Dual 18" LLT subs 120dB down to 10hz

I think your fine with the Crest. Like Scott said at 4400 watts you should add a HPF at about 11hz if I recall correctly, with 2200 watts no HPF is needed.

I just looked on ebay and the 9200's sell for about $1,350 used. I guess you could sell both of your Crest's and get a pair of clones. The difference in price would almost pay for one of the LMS Ultra's.

The LMS likes power and you already have more than enough with your excellent Crest amps. The Clone is a very nice amp as well so I don't think you could wrong either way, it's really up to you.

Thank you guys. I didnt mean to hijack this thread. I wish there was someone between Alabama and West Virginia who owned 4 of these so I could demo. Parts express is giving me a deal if I buy 4 of the LMS 18'S. 880 EACH. I heard you guys mention a newer model LMS. Is there something I need to look for when I order mine? Like a different part number or something?

Those blimy bastards! They told me they are out of stock for the next 3 weeks and here they are cutting you a deal!!! lol....

I'm in no hurry though.

I personally haven't heard of a new model and when I talked to parts express yesterday I SPECIFICALLY asked them if they anticipated discontinuing this model any time soon. They indicated this as being a great seller for such a high end product and they do not see this going anywhere for a long time...

I'd say you were safe for purchase...

PE carries the latest version of the LMS Ultra, there are no other versions available. There may have been a mention of the old LMS which was produced and sold directly by TC Sounds but that has not been produced for a number of years.

If i'm not mistaken the old LMS cone was made of titanium.

FYI, the old vs. new drivers have a different thread patterns, so you can't bolt an old magnet to a new basket assembly and visa versa.

This obviously applies to the 5% early adopters, but just thoight i'd drop some knowledge on everyone.

The magnet for the old 5400 would screw on. The new one is bolted on.

Also, the cone on the old 5400 was still aluminum, just slightly thinner and therefore less durable.

After hearing these 4 beasts in person performing together, I was truly impressed. That's 1020 square inches of bass driver that left me speechless. Only one flaw with Edogg's system and that is, it's left me with a bad taste of envy.

Thanks man!

I was pretty happy with having 2 subs in the mix, but the additional 2 subs just took it to a completely new level!! This is exactly the kind of bass I was looking for from the start of this project. I'm happy to report, mission accomplished!

Old early 5400's ( prototypes) were aluminum cones, then they went to titanium which was something like 22% thinner, but heavier as well as stronger. They said that there was a high cosmetic defect rate with the ti cones, along with the high cost. I suspect that helped the move back to aluminum in the newer versions.

Are you sure the prototypes weren't the titanium versions?

Ricci's review on data-bass.com says the cone is aluminum. Also, in the picture of the cone, it has a dent it in, which also leads be to believe it's aluminum, since titanium is super strong yet brittle at its breaking point. I don't think titanium would dent like that.
