thinking i might sell my avalanche in the summer and buy 2 dayton dvc subs and put them in sonotubes. is this a good idea? the avalanche has 27mm of xmax vs the 15mm of xmax the dayton dvc has..... is that difference audible?

what size sonotube should i put them in? i was thinking something between
7 - 9cuft . what should i tune to? this is gonna be 55/45 movies/music so if i just stick with 1 tune it'll be 17hz....BUT, i would like to have a multi-tuned sub. low tune = 15hz, high tune= 25hz (i dont even think thats possible).

Yep, this is the ballerina forum...you've come to the right place. I thought Mila Kunis performance in the Black Swan was stunning! I think the board is all in agreeance she's a natural in a tutu.

It is the weekend and in turn this forum gets minimal traffic. You could also provide some more information as to why you want to make a change, box size options, room size, power supply, placement flexibility, why you're uphappy with Avalanche, etc. Or you could accept the responses to this question you posed at HTS and show some patience here.

lolwut?

Anyway.... why not keep the Ava18. It's not as modern but it's still a decent driver. You can do multi-tune easily by having more than one port or vent that you can plug. I personally don't believe in them as one way or another there will be a major compromise wrt the port/vent and I would rather built it 'right' with a single tune... but that's me.

me too!!!
well it actually hasn't been built yet. conventional audio wisdom says the more displacement the better so 2 15's always* beats 1 18. i'm only gonna be using a sonotube, no mdf boxes this time around. room size is unknown.
power supply is gonna be a behringer amp probably an ep4000.
im flexible with placement as none of this is built yet.

no

Displacement 2 DVC15's = 5.00L
Displacement 1 Avalanche 18 = 6.534L

Now with that said you have better placement options with two subs as far as room nodes are concerned. I'd probably build the Avalanche since you have it already and if you find you need to overcome a room node add the DVC later.

There is a program called sonosub.exe i believe thats the name...(on my other computer) Google that and it will be very helpful....also winisd can help but you'll need patience with it ...johnnyrichards on the parts express tech forum has a great tutorial for it............Hope this helps...I built 2 12" Assassin's and they were awesome but the wife just couldn't get used to there size (53" tall 18" round footprint)

So don't give up there have been plenty of these builds try a search ?
