Looks like a winner in the making here...

15" XBL^2 technology subwoofer.
"Coil is 100mm instead of 75mm.
Surround allows greater throw.
Power handling is higher.
And Sd is close to the same.
Should be quite a treat to fool around with.
Oh yeah X-max on the SDX15 MarkII is a bit higher!"

isn't this like 3 years in the making? I remember waiting for this driver 2 or 3 builds ago.

So I hear they had a bunch of build house quality control issues.

Hope they get it going and it does what it claims. It would fill a nice gap left behind by the old Tumult and AV15....

Avalanche looking motor and a stitched cone. I like that they kept the same basket.

It does look interesting. I like the old Avalanche-style tapered top-plate.

Wonder what cost will be, though, If it's not a good bit lower than the street price on a W15GTi, they might be in trouble.

jbl seems to have their head up their rear on that dust cap. while it can be cut off and/or another one glued on, most folks just aren't going to do that. seems kind of crazy, but after all the technology in that drive, then they lose on the dustcap that might cost a nickel?

Wonder why CSS simply stopped making the original SDX15. I recall when I built my dual opposed AV15H boxes I was debating between the two drivers, and when dealing with Bob he literally mentioned he only had 4 or 6 of them left so I'd have to order soon as a new version was in the works. This was back in Feb/March 2010.

Curious how this puppy will perform north of 100hz. The AV15H seemed to be the better choice at the time as I cross at 120hz and even 150hz on occasion. Heck, I've tried 200hz and it was pretty damn good (luxury of having my S2 bookshelves sitting on top of the two subs I guess .... no localisation).

They've gotten better over time. Mine has a black one with this horrid print that says "JBL 5000 WATTS" on it, like some white van sub.

The new plastichrome one with JBL in relief is much less awful.

But if one hides her/his drivers, it's not an issue. And I can think of many reasons other reasons to hide drivers (ranging from aesthetic - audio is better heard and not seen - to practical - no way for pets/kids to claw through a surround or kick in a cone).

If this new SDX15 driver is priced in the $300-$350 range and it meets all its stated specs, it should sell very well since there's not much available right now with regards to 15" DIY drivers. I had the original and this looks to be a jump in performance & quality.

I wanted three of them but got tired of waiting and picked up three JBL GTI 15" drivers. I have two in a dual opposed box and the other one in a sealed box. I finally got some new speakers & receiver and just set them up (EQ) today. I hope to start a review of the GTI's in the next couple of days as the build is allready finished.

Really looking forward to your reveiw if the gti's, I was seriously considering them until I saw the SWS-15D4 by alpine.. I am thinking in a price performance battle, the alpines win easily.. please correct me if I am wrong.

Only the Alpine Type R 12's, and I believe the 10's as well, have the "newer" motor that's lower depth and has a shorting ring.
The 15's don't.

But ~19mm Xmax isn't terribly bad for $200 a pop.

audiop, based on the klippel bl(x) data shown on the website and presented in the other thread, the 12" swr is kind of in another league than the new sws 15" for linearity.

Nothing like a little competition at a certain price point. Is the Sundown SA15 in the race at 230.00 and change. I'm so in the running for a solid cost effective 15".

if you look at the model numbers it appears the 15 did not get the upgrade which is quite ******
