The taller one with the black basket is the 18" Resonant Engineering XXX.

The shorter one with the silver basket is the 18" TC Sounds LMS Ultra 5400.

I know, I hang my head in shame. Thanks for the answer.

So basically the XXX 18 is the lowest and loudest 18 inch woofer on the planet?

I wouldnt say loudest, but it is definitely meant for the real low frequencies. Possibly could be called the displacement king with its huge xmax. They aren't very good above 50 to 60 hz. The LMS is superb all around.

I was just asking because of the 54mm one-way linear travel which is significantly higher than the LMS, isn't it?

Its a fair amount higher. But thats not everything. Read Ricci's review of both of them at data-bass.com. He's thoroughly tested both. There are trade offs for higher excursion.

Hey Keager. How is the build coming along? You know, if you had any down time and your old LMS box was large enough to accomodate the huge basket of the XXX, sounds like it could be a fun experiment. Albeit not an optimal box size for the XXX, but smaller usually means safer.

Just tossing that out there. =)

Yeah, I thought of that, but no dice. It has passive radiators in it which I have sold. Wouldn't fit with them anyway, with the freakishly shaped basket and motor of the xxx. I have high hopes of having one manifold done and installed over the long weekend. Hard to plan time for it, just got to sieze the moment when its available.

Nope, unfortunately English is my first language. I must have had a brain fart when I typed the word "useless". Very odd, indeed. The information was certainly useful, not useless.

I also realized I had my lms/pr's wired 4 ohm bridged for the last year. The gain was only about 1/3 though.

Looking great buddy! Is that one box or both? You'll be venturing into the crawlspace in no time!

Hey, you ever decide on what you were goimg to do with your amp situation? We don't want that to be the sticking point with your project so, just go ahead and buy another Clone... =)

Thankyou sir. Hopefully will be able to mount drivers in manifold for a test fit before going down below. I suppose I should hook them up to to make sure magnet and cone clear each other with high excursion. Measurements say they will, but it would be better to change something now then later....

Definitely a good idea. I just realized you are going to have to mount these from the inside of the box...

Actually have to mount from the outside due to joist width and magnet depth.

The magnet will be outside of the box in the crawlslace, but are you actually mounting the sub from the inside of the manifold with the magnet facing out right?

One magnet out and one magnet in. Both mounted from outside the manifold

Little more progress. Setting drivers in cutouts to mark and drill pilot holes for mounting screws.

There will me more clearance than the one way excursion of the cone. Its a tight fit. It's starting to get interesting now.

This is how the drivers will be mounted in the manifold once under house, bolted to the bottom of the floor joists. Over 4 inch clearance between the cone and magnet

I certainly will. Open to comments, critisism, and advice. I have a loose plan, but most of this I'm making up as I go along.

Hummm, this is what the IB guys over at the cult suggested? I see now why I was a bit confused when you told us how you were mounting them. I've never seen this before.

Can you point me to a source that recommends this technique. I'd like to read up on it myself.

The main reason I'm mounting them this way is lack of space on one side. I don't think there is a large benefit or drawback acoustically. Possibly to balance out driver non linearity, which is something I'm not knowledgeable about.
