This song 'Notorious' has massive infrasonics, anyone else notice this? like ~10hz?

I'm sporting quad Pro 18's now, for that mid-bass, chest thumpin' slap (night-club style). They are each 98db/watt and I'm feeding them a EP-4000 (more than overkill). This is to supplant the 5 high-excursion subs that aren't as efficient up top.

But unfortunately FedEx didn't drop off both of the new ones this Friday (just the one). Also missing are the binding posts for sub #7, 8 and 9 that were supposed to come with, and a 100' spool of wire. That will have to wait until next business-day.

Damn ya know this hobby just keeps getting more and more expensive by the minute!!!

It's starting and stoping so quick that your eye and the camera can't even pick it up, but she's a movin'

See... that's the danger with high burst power, it's always on the red line of death, never to be crossed, and you may not even know it!

This is exactly what I was talking about when I said bridging to over 10kW is a bad idea on any subwoofer, bursts can very quickly exceed 80mm of excursion. This is non-bridged BTW, so double this and you get the idea of what that would be like. I like to nickname it 'Insta-death' mode

Applying some Varathane Cabernet stain to the birch.

Box is 19x19x15, I box-modeled it and going with a bigger box doesn't really gain much db with these cones, just makes it heavier and reduces placement options, and drastically reduces damping at the high frequncies these will be pumping (40-200hz). Trust me, that last thing you want is ringing at those frequencies! To further that, I use almost 100% full stuffing density on these.

My room is L-shaped and 3600 cubic feet, which make things very difficult to get high SPL and an even bass response, which is why I have so many subs; I'm just beating this room into submission with pure brute force. I'm loading all 4 into the front corners behind the B&W's, which seems to be the sweet spot for this room, anywhere else is just plain horrible.

Post up the color and finished pics of the stain. The Baltic Birch is a pain to stain.

Subwoofer #9 has arrived and both are in fully working condition (YAY).

They are going to stay on the floor until I can build some boxes for them and obtain an FP14k clone, I just finished subwoofer #7. So I'm taking a bit of a break from construction for a while...

Anyways, that's my status update for those two for now.

Dayton's, cause they're dirt cheap. I'm sure there is better out there, but where else can you get brand new quad 18's for under $380.

You really need all four in order to lower the harmonic ringing between 100-200hz, but to still have enough surface-area to get loud. Double the SA = half the distortion for the same SPL... (more or less).

They don't do very well below 40hz, but I ain't using them for that

Night club style ain't good enough. You want LMS-18 w/3kw in a car style.

How about 3 LMS-18's powered by 300kW's in a single upright shower /w plasma screen & a food-tube; you wouldn't even need water to clean with

Mom knocks and asks why has Timmy been in the shower for the last 50+ minutes, haha

Yeah right 300kw lol. I sure do enjoy my sealed LMS in the car with Bass I Love you. Wind down the drivers side window and it feels like a hurricane which makes people hair fly everywhere.

Excuse my bragging.

Had a power outage, just came back on, only got 10 of the 12 walls done today. I "could" finish it tonight but I'm not in THAT much of a hurry. They'll be done tomorrow.

Just have routing and electrical to do and then she's done.

Can't wait to hear what 4 of these sound like. Theoretically another +3db SPL at 40-200hz.
