Got the itch to upgrade my doors to Sundown NeoPro 8s after fryign one of my JL C5 6.5s:


I decided to make a custom MDF plates because of how the driver fit the door. The following is the process.

Remove old drivers:


Make a cardboard rough template:



Transfer to MDF:


I didn't get photos of the rough cut and belt sand to fit nicely, I also hit the front edge with a bit of roundover. This is the result of about 45 minutes of sanding and fitting. Also cut out the driver opening:



Spray about 6 coats of flat black, MDF soaks it up:


Mount the plate to the door and test fit the driver:


Mount the tweeter:



Cut a small amount of steel out of the door, and put the door panel back on:


And here it is, a front stage that can finally keep up with 4 12s:

Any change in the xover to accommodate the 8" vs the jl?

I am going to run them active once the 125.4 comes out, didn't change anything yet so it still is running off the JL crossover.

They handle the midbass nicely.
