To make small bookshelf speakers around .6cubes each.
I bought a sheet of some heavy premium pine that is 1 foot by 6 foot. .75 thick. for 20 bucks
Will that work?
I do not want to use MDF but is mdf better than that pine?
They have oak that is 9 dollars per foot, is it that much better?

I'd use hardwood instead of pine. Do you have a local hardwood dealer that sells to the trades? HD is not a good place to buy oak.

For small book shelf speakers I would grab an overnight sensation kit at the DIY sound group. Everything you need in a box. CNC cut cabinets. Almost goof proof.

That wood will work fine, just make sure to add some bracing.
