just out of curiousity, what were you missing with "only" 4 re xxx's?
i'm not even asking scott what he was missing with 9 x 2226...
btw, what is required for "avs club" or "avs gold club"?

Twelve but who's counting? Oh wait... tongue.gif

I'll be putting the extra six 2226's to use along with the mega system. It's sort of a solve-the-massive-storage-problem....thing. It will all be explained once I've dropped the thread bomb.

Oh John, AVS Club stuff here: http://www.avsforum.com/a/avs-club

My Dual 18" LLT subs 120dB down to 10hz

I could make guests queesy with 4 but could only cause actual browning of the pants maybe 15% of the time. Perhaps 35% of the time if deviled eggs, whiskey or steamed cauliflower were involved. A full 8 should jack that up to 45% of guests having full loss of bowel control. Increased chance of panic attacks, vertigo, dimentia and asphyxiation by sub-bass should result as well.

Not much truthfully. On some tracks WOTW's HTTYD, etc...I still could not quite get to REF level playback without worrying about the safety of the drivers due to sub bass excursion. This is with the bass boosted to flat into the 6-7Hz range. +12dB boost of a 20Hz low shelf with a 20Hz parametric EQ cut is what is required in the old room. 4200 cubes. I don't typically listen near that loud but it bugs me that I have to be careful when I crank it with a new movie. If I wasn't trying to maintain flat response down into Hades in a very lossy room it wouldn't be a concern. Basically the amps have a little more juice than the drivers can comfortably handle at 4500w per driver. I don't know whether mechanical damage would actually occur or amp clipping first (I think clipping?) but I don't really want to find out the expensive way. Enter 6dB worth of extra displacement.

roger that. completely understandable. props on the upgrade.

by the way, on history2 this evening, the guys were out at stonehenge and mapping tones to brainscans while playing drums around 7hz. such sound "entrains" the brain (the brain starts pulsing at 7hz) and puts it into an altered state of consciousness. 7hz is around the resonant frequency of the earth's electromagnetic spectrum and it also turns out to be the resonant frequency of our brain's alpha waves. maybe you could recreate stonehenge in your living room!

Listen. It's All Good.
