empoy, post your location...maybe somebody close by will offer to help or give a suggestion for a local cabinetmaker.

Maybe forum member PassingInterest can help out, assuming he has the time. Those won't be cheap though.

Are the monitors meant for surround sound use, or just as a smaller version of the fronts? Wonder if they would work well with the fronts as surrounds....

The short answer: no, the Statement Monitors are NOT meant as surrounds.

The long answer:
The Monitors are just a smaller version of the Statement line; they have the same rear space requirement as the full sized Statements (that is, they require 18" of space behind the rear of the cabinet to the wall for the mid-woofer transmission line to function properly). While the Statement Monitors do have an optional crossover adjustment so you can reduce that to ~12 inches, you still require at least 2 feet of space from the wall to the front of the speaker. While it is possible that someone might be able to do that with their surrounds, there are much better solutions out there.

any guesstimate on how much would it cost for this kind of enclosure in terms of the required MDF?

You question is a bit too vague.

Are you asking how much MDF you would need to build these enclosures, or are you asking how much would it cost to have someone build these enclosures out of MDF?

For an unfinished cabinet, probably not too much. Any local cabinet or custom woodworking shop should be able to quote you a price based on the cabinet drawings on Curt's site.

For finished cabinets, the cost would very greatly based on the type of finish you wanted.
