So I have 2 12" epic 12s and 2 Yung 500w plate amps with no boost on the way to my house. I'm looking for the best compromise between output and size. There aren't to many ported buildson the epic and I've read that is the same as the tc1000 and there are few tc1000 builds.
I was thinking 3 cubic feet tuned to 20-22 hz using two four inch tube ports per driver. Thoughts? I read where one guy said the driver begs for 2.5 cubic feet ported, but that seems a little small. I have to make me and wife happy.
I ran 2x epic 12" in dual 1.5cu ft sealed boxes driven by 2 bash300 amps. Later switched to an ep4000 feeding them 950RMS each. Sold one off and kept the other as a testing cube. It later failed from moisture somehow reached the internals. I'll admit I was last running it hard on about 2000 RMS for fun, then didn't use it for 6mo. Probably overheated the coil and then somehow not using it condensation ruined it. Great subs that can take so much juice in sealed configuration. Started using a lab12 which so far seems to have similar output with less power consumption.
I'd vote for smaller sealed. You have enough power on them.

the highpass filter built into the amp will reduce spl, air speed, and port chuffing below the crossover point. in combination with the total spl that you are shooting for, that will help determine how large of a cross-sectional area that your port needs to be.
It'll actually be a slot port, I'll just go with the proper surface area. What do you mean porting based on my amp? The yung amps have a highpass set at 20 or just under 20 hz.
You have an amp with no boost, and a 20hz HPF. Paired with a low/mid Qtc woofer, a ported box makes sense. Sealed will get you solid woofer performance, with an f3 in the mid 40hz range. It could be a good choice in a tiny room, but the 20hz HPF is still cutting off the response, so you might as well maximize output down to that point by porting.
