Would putting 4 dual opposed (1 per corner) of these 18`s yield better results than 4x 21`s? (1 per corner)

That would likely be no, I would think. 2 of these are comparable to the UXL. You have a 21 inch version of the UXL. You win. lol

Fatshaft, just going off manufacturer specs, 4 of the ftw 21s net 44L of displacement. 8 of the SI 18s = 43L. Sensitivity would probably be close too but from what josh said of the 18s, they have a very compliant surround which might be more amp friendly depending on enclosure. I'd say the 18s will serve you better the higher you venture into the midbass region so it depends also on the bandwidth you'd like them to cover. My big question is what aren't the 21s doing for you that you wanna venture out?

Nope but I did have to confirm. Maybe you had sold them by now? confused.gif *shrugs*

You have four FTW's, amiright? Those are excursion monsters and have larger voicecoils. Per driver, you will have a lot more output. Monster output.

These are nice but not on par with what you have now. I would think that going with eight of these would be more of a lateral move. Now eight LMS-U's.... a whole different story, sir. wink.gif

Nothing wrong with supplementing your quad 21's with more drivers though. I won't discourage that. No way. smile.gif

3-7cuft per driver.

Really depends on how much power you're going to use. 4-5cuft is a nice middle ground.

Makes no difference being dual-opposed or not. It's the equivalent airspace per driver. That's what you pay attention to.

I'm going to (most likely if I order these) use two 8cuft cabs dual-opposed, four cubic per driver. They will take 1,250w just fine.

What do you suggest for 1000 watts each then? I'm using a ep4000 per pair

Well.... I just told ya I'm going 4cuft per driver and that will take 1,250w just fine. wink.gif

Might be a large-ish box for some but you can downsize a bit if you want. I'll be using a ep4000 for mine too but I'll just use one to power four for a while until I can get larger amps.

It also helps that Josh tested them in a 4.2cuft sealed cab in his Data-Bass tests. So that way, you can look at the tests and know exactly what to expect at home.

Scott,

If you're not running into over excursion issues, why wouldn't you build a bigger cab to pick up some low end. These looked like they model much better using the recommended 6cf cab as opposed to the 4.

That and where I intend to put them..... can't go much larger. You'll see. smile.gif

Also, we are talking about 4 out of 12 18's in a 2,000cuft bedroom HT room. I'll have plenty of low end. biggrin.gif

Really, fatshaft? Really???

So you are looking to upgrade from table walking...

...to what? Table flipping?

I'm with Scott, keep the FTW21's. Add 4 dual oposed cabinets and stack your FTW21's on top... You have a FP10KQ Clone powering the FTW's, right? Throw another one in the mix and that should put you in x8 LMS-U territory...

Do it...

Where you at in Canada again? That might be worth a road trip...
