Maybe 8 for quad dual opposed and a spare?

Lol! I guess that would work but no. Think multiples.... multiple locations. Multiple locations and clusters. biggrin.gif

Yes, well...sorta.

Specifically: two dual SS RLp18d4's up front, two dual-opposed SI 18d2's (2ohm final load) on each side of my couch and a 4x4 cube or cluster (two 2ohm load) behind the couch.

The extra ninth d2 is for my Jeep.

Scott, that's pretty much my recipe except using the ssd 15s behind and to the sides with the 8 SI's dual opposed co located up front. You're set up should be ridiculously tactile. I love the feel of the subs nearfield but IMO equal or more displacement up front or distributed around the room to get away from localization.

Definitely. I feel the same way. The RLp18's up front will possibly get up to 2,200w each (8,800w total) from a LG clone. That's if I feel secure enough to order one of those. So those combined with summed LFE into twelve JBL 2226's up front will provide the majority of the bass. These SI's will only get ~400-500w each for a while until I get something like a Cerwin Vega CV5000 or a Marathon ma5050 (both pretty much the same thing) and give them 1,250w each. Reason why I am doing that is simple. I already have two ep2500's to do the job. Money saved! biggrin.gif Plus, they will all be within 3-4ft away so.... I'm sure eight 18's powered with 400w each will be PLENTY enough ...... for a while. biggrin.gif

700 watts is the thermal limit of these or can they take a kilowatt?

A smaller enclosure will handle a kilowatt.

In order to make the most of enclosure efficiency using 5-600 Watts, how much cubic feet per driver would be optimal? I know on the SI site they reference 6 cubes for sealed.

well I grabbed one of these, going ported in a 9cuft box to 12hz and hitting it with about 500watts.

According to WinISD 6 cuft gives you a box Q of .7 and 550 watts puts xmax right at 10hz. Personally I like it smaller, around 4 cuft, but I tend to run more power.

The aluminum cone of the Dayton with the high roll surround of the SI would be the best combo, they both look really good though.

Thx MJ, i'm trying to decide between smaller boxes with an FP14K or larger boxes with a Marathon 5050. I already have the FP in use but if it would really make a difference that even larger boxes couldn't make up then I'll make some revisions.

I've been going back and forth on this for a couple days now also. I was all set on 6 cubes per driver but now I'm rethinking it a bit. Here is a comparison between drivers and wattage. I went ahead and typed the cab size into the angle box so you could see the relation between all of them.

My current plan is green, but the new thought process is orange. That would mean reducing cab size and picking up another EP4000. Hmmmm.
I realistically could even bump it to about 4.25 per driver. At 5000 watts it doesn't reach xmax until about 7 hz.

I put some silicon on the back of the terminal last night so had to let it dry. I should be able to get some impressions tonight, although not sure if I will be able to take them full tilt for any extended period of time since I will have family around. Over the next 5 days or so I will have demo'd my usual material and take some omnimic sweeps.

Agreed, although I kind of like the Dayton's wider and more subtle surround too. smile.gif

It's interesting. I had been operating off of parameters that gave 0.7 with ~4.2, from Ricci's first parameter post in this thread. SI's parameters give 6 ft for 0.7. I rentered the parameters from Data-Bass today and it was giving me just under 4 feet for 0.7. No matter though. I'll be sealing up my 4.2 cab tonight with the day off tomorrow to play. And I think santa is bringing me an NU6000, I'd better think about getting another one of these drivers.

Personally I think with cheap DSP and high powered amps like we have today that box Q's are not as important as they once were. Before then we had to get the lowest response out of a 200 watt amp naturally from a sub with a whopping 5 to 10mm xmax. Now we can pop a sub into a small enclosure, add a bunch of power and EQ to taste.

Better think fast... The pre-order price of $162 ends today. I confirmed it with SI today.
