I have a pair of Paradigm Monitor 9 speakers that got damaged moving. One tweeter got smashed so I'll probably end up buying two new ones. I have no clue what to buy and Paradigm nor my local dealer will help. Any ideas?

sorry to hear that paradigm has left you out in the wind.

maybe you could work something out with parts express or madisound to test/measure your good one for some bucks and then buy two tweeters from their stock that measure the closest.

you want something with similar impedance around the crossover point and about the same overall sensitivity.

Listen. It's All Good.

A speaker only a few years old and they won't sell a replacement driver? That's crazy!

I would try Paradigm again, maybe you'll get someone more helpful on the phone a second time around.

And there's always The Speaker Exchange: http://reconingspeakers.com/

Paradigm won't deal direct with customers, or at least thats what they told me. Local dealer wants $239 plus shipping for the tweeters. Oh well I'll put them up on Craigslist and get whatever I can and buy a different brand this time frown.gif Thanks for the replies.

Here's what I recommend for your new speakers. (and yes they will ship you new ones, factory direct, if they get damaged, no questions asked.)

I heard the monitor 9's at the store, they sounded like garbage compared to my system (although to be fair, it wasn't a fair comparison rig at all).

My system sounds so good, it's borderline freakish IMO.

This is the 1998 model, their 2012 diamond tweeters are $1500 (each). eek.gif

I'm getting closer and closer to fully-anechoic with every passing year eek.gif but that's a whole other topic.

Well I put the speakers up on Craiglist and the best offer I got was $110. So I'm going to have to find a source to get new tweeters. If anyone has somewhere I might be able to purchase from it would be greatly appreciated. Paradigm is completely ignoring me at this point frown.gif

Well it seems you have 3 choices.
1: remove the tweets and see if they are made by someone like Peerless that has a close equivalent for sale. Possible, but not likely.
2: Stump up the replacement price for tweeters. You could also try other Paradigm dealers and see whether they'll do a better price.
3: Sell them and take a bigger loss.

The likelihood of getting another brand/model tweet to fit in as a replacement is low if you expect the same performance, at least without modifying the xover.

If you want a good tweeter, click this link and type in this part number ZZ11770

But before you buy one, you should read the following first:

They float in a sandwich of gel isolation pads, the back of the neo tweeter magnet is held by the front of the Nautilus tube via contact pressure only by the iso pad there, the tube itself is held by an isopad at the rear of the tweeter housing, the bottom of the housing is held by a contact slip to the enclosure with an iso pad as well.

They are individually hand-painted using Lamborghini-quality tooling, and cut with laser beams, and individually inspected with electron-microscopes, and then tested, hence the price; and hence the sound quality.
Full-package 1998 top-o-the-line metal tweeter: ZZ10685
Full-package 2012 top-o-the-line diamond tweeter: HF00963
Their operating range is: 2khz-27khz and 2khz-100khz respectively.

Warning: They must be installed in a dedicated housing or they will get damaged by the woofers air displacement, if you want to save the money you'll have to build your own housing.
Note: It is a screwless design, there isn't a single screw in the entire design of the this tweeter; you'll have to use glue or pressure mount it using your own design.

Pardigm should help you - you can't just drop in something that fits. The crossover will be wrong
http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?htech&1161662626&read&keyw&zzparadigm=monitor=9

The guys at Madisound, esp if Josh is still there, may be able to help, if Paradigm won't

is it just pushed in, or dead?
