Dude, come on down! 60.00 in lumber and it's a done deal. You will have nearly a half sheet left over too. biggrin.gif I will try to remember and post the cutlist info for anyone who is interested. Home Depot or Lowes can make the cuts for you as well.

My box is 23wide x 25height x 28 deep for a total of around ~7 cubes net. The dimensions can be easily modified if needed. I'd be happy to help you design a box, but otherwise here is my cutlist - this includes two panels for bracing and of course a double baffle on the front and back:

Both boxes prepped for paint! First box has been primed also. I ordered a gallon of Duratex which hopefully should be here mid week? After the primer dries, I'm planning on dropping on some woofage and testing these bad boys out! The final prep was a lot of work, but I'm super happy with the way they are turning out. Corners are rounded and super smooth!

Lookin good. I can't wait to see the results as I'm looking at a similar build coming up.

BTW, you suck. White C5 Z06 is one of my favorite combos.

Based upon the write up Josh did on the drivers those have the potential to be amazing subwoofers. When is the next GTG? tongue.gif

Thanks, I'm excited to listen as well. I actually sold the C5 a while back but man it was a fun ride. Built motor, built trans, clutch, CCWs, A&A Blower kit, cam, etc. It was a worthwhile sell though - I'm in a 2010 White diamond CTS-V now. biggrin.gif

Agreed, on paper they seem really sweet - we'll see how they sound. Did you get my last round of PMs? Looking at December 15th as a possible mini-gathering. biggrin.gif

OK - Both boxes two coats primed now. Also cut and soldered leads for drivers. Tomorrow AM going to try the drivers in the cabs and give them a listen once the primer is all dry.

Twins!

I love the CTS-V's. Deceptively quick. Gave my built blown Mustang a run for a bit. Did you list your Vette on Corvetteforum? I was looking at a couple built z06's and yours looks familiar.

they would be much more fun to drive if they weren't lugging around 3900 lbs of ass. :-) that said, at least one made it around the northern loop in under 8 minutes and that is not too shabby.

The holidays are a bit tight for me, time wise, so doing anything on the weekends for the rest of the year would be very tough. I'd love to see your new subs, but it will have to wait until next year I'm afraid. frown.gif

Nah, I actually never even listed it for sale formally, haha. Got an offer I couldn't refuse. smile.gif I'm very familiar with LSX cars and the C5s especially. Shoot me a PM to chat sometime.cool.gif

Have you driven one yet? The handling of the car is in no way indicative of it's weight. It would run circles around my blown 3100# fixed roof vette at the track. This thing is for real.

Massive output, especially in midrange? Check.

Extension? I'll let my sweep speak for itself. No HPF, No EQ, and no smoothing. It seems like my Crown does have a HPF built in at 7hz.

Would you say these have more output than the 2 Caps and 3 Submersives did?

Are you kidding me? That's no EQ or smoothing using drivers that aren't even broken in yet?? eek.gif That's incredible. It can only get better from here...

BTW, did I see that you aren't using any damping material?

Thanks Carp. As for the comparison to the Caps/Submersives it's tough to make a broad statement like that since I haven't done an A/B comparison and we all know audio memory is not all that great beyond a few minutes, heh. I will say that I really really really doubt that one can get any better for anywhere near this cost. The midrange is incredible and brutally tight and clean. As a fellow music (and metal) lover I would think you would really like these as well. I will share more comments below.

Jim - Funny you should mention that. I just got back from walmart picking up my polyfill. I was waiting until the cabs were painted to stuff them. I'm incredibly impressed with this setup so far. You've GOT to come down here for a listen soon.

i think the better question is how do they sound vs your caps? I know you are powering them with your XLS5k, how much power do you have going into each one?

OK - I got to spend a little over an hour listening to some of my normal demo material. In short, these things ROCK. The midrange is incredibly powerful and seemingly limitless and they have awesome response all around. I got a chance to run Audyssey and noticed it flatted them out a bit so I bumped the levels up a few db to compensate. I haven't re-ran the omnimic yet or tweaked the minidsp at all but honestly it's likely not even necessary. I was fully planning on ordering another 4 of these guys but I'm beginning to question the need for that much more? If you know me you know that says a LOT! They seem to take everything the Crown has without a peep of trouble.

I started with some of my normal demo music clips - Dave Matthews, Fleetwood Mac, and the Rock and Roll Hall of fame blu ray disc. The kick drums and bass guitar riffs came alive like I've never heard before. I had the volume up to +12 at times running 6-8db hot and they just kept going without a hint of trouble. I have yet to find any negatives in this area yet.

I moved on to the Scuba steve demo disc. I ran some scenes from book of eli, FOTP, Hulk, and of course, BHD Irene. The famous 'blades' scene in BHD was really cool to experience at stupid levels. I managed to trip a breaker during this one with the volume over reference, heh. Again, gobs and gobs of super clean output with no bad noises at stupid high levels which were well over reference at times. During the Book of eli shootout scene I dislodged a bass trap, LOL. The projector lens shift got knocked out of adjustment probably a half dozen times - I need to figure this out now heh. I tried the THX clip and this was the only time I heard the drivers under a bit of stress.

I figured I HAD to try a sine save sweep - 10hz to 100hz. The 10hz tone immediately got my attention. The room began to pressurize and shelves back at the bar were shaking violently. AWESOME. The fun continued through the rest of the range. To my ear most of the frequencies seemed to be level which makes sense given the omnimic sweep I ran.

I want to get some of you guys over here ASAP to listen - I'd love to get some other impressions and see if some of you guys like them as much as I do. If anyone is close, I'll be home most of this week and off for work so give me a holler if you're close and want to stop by. I'm really stoked to get them painted, grills done, stuffed with polyfill, and of course, broken in. biggrin.gif

I'm running them on my Crown in the same configuration as the Caps - 2 ohm stereo. Each cab is getting 2500 watts in this setup, so 1250 to each driver. They seem to take it all without an issue.

I have hundreds of hours listening to the caps over the last year. Since I've only listened to these guys for a little over an hour so far, I'm not going to make an definite statements just yet. But I will tell you that the Daytons have the punishing output like the Caps, but also have stupid low extension. Sound quality on both subs is outstanding. Midrange on the Daytons is for sure stronger than the Captivators. 20hz / port tune area on the Caps might have the edge in that region though.
