The living room has got bass again! Sorry they're still a little dusty after drilling the holes, etc. but was too excited to listen, haha. They sound great! Grills should be wrapped up tonight or tomorrow night.

Yes sir, pretty much had to do the triple baffle if I wanted a chance at fitting some grills on there. wink.gif Very happy with the way these turned out. Will start construction on the next 2 for the the rear of the room in a little while. For now I'll take a few weekends off and finish up the nursery. tongue.gif

Just wanted to thank Andrew for this thread! I finished my double dual opposed 18's this week. They are powered on one channel of the FP14k. It sounds great. I re ran audyssy xt32 this morning and removed my SVS PB13 Ultra. Just broke ground on the new house this week. The new house will have a good size dedicated theater in it, plan on building two more once I start finishing the room. Thanks again!
Aaron

Aaron - Glad you are enjoying! The Daytons and clone make for a really killer setup. What are your thoughts vs. the Ultra so far? Have fun my friend.

Rilla, How do the Dayton drivers compare to the SI? As you actually use both seem to be the one to ask. I plan on building sealed subs this Fall, and either will work in the encloses I have designed (4 cu ft, a compromise between power handling and low end excursion). Decided against dual opposed so I have more flexibility in placement. Eventually I want 8 of them, this forum is going to lead to spending to much on HT. Now I am looking into making a front wall with transparent screen, but that's down the road. Would be nice to have a wall of subs hidden away unnoticed until called upon, the sniper approach.

Honestly the sound about the same to me. The build quality is a tad better on the daytons IMO. The SIs are less expensive. The daytons handle a bit more power, but have less xmax capability.

Thanks man for the info, I am leaning towards the Daytons as I think the aluminum cone looks great. I have been calculating based on 20 mm Xmax per info earlier in your thread. I am so readyto leave Asia so i can start building me some subs.

Outstanding workmanship Gorilla!.. very nice indeed. I like how you leave extra room around your driver. (I do it also) Anyway I look forward to seeing how things look with your new screen and grills, although I think things look great as they are... big 18’s looking straight at yuh. cool.gif

Gorilla, do you have 2 different ht setups? I thought that I noticed in the pics at the top of this page where you had some Def Tech towers next to the subs? Are you still running those BP-30's? If so, how do you like them compared to the Seos speakers that you built? I sold my BP-30's a while back, and am currently in the process of building some Seos type speakers, but I am seriously debating on buying some more BP30's if I come accross any!

What did you build the screen frames out of? I would try this myself but how do you get rid of any sagging in the middle?

Marty - I think you asked the same question to me via PM before. I posted some comments in my sentinel build thread but I'm always hesitant to make recommendations for others because as we know listening preference is very subjective. I like the SEOS alot.

See my false wall/AT screen build thread as linked in my signature. It has quite a bit of documentation throughout the process. cool.gif

Watched a few movies now with the new setup. They are definitely better than the Ultra. I is pretty tough to compare 4 - 18's to 1 - 13" sub though. I would say it seems to be a much cleaner, deeper, musical bass. I love it! Cannot wait for the new house to be build so I can add 8 more smile.gif

That's true. If space is at a premium, the Ultra is tough to beat. For those that it's not though; the SI (Dayton) vs Ultra is an easy choice (unless you just like spending lots o money).

Nice man! Warning: adding more becomes very addictive. In my room 8 really get the job done though. I haven't (yet) had the desire to add much more as I very very rarely get to use what I have to full capacity.

If I were space constrained I would probably end up with something like the UXL - still very cost conscious considering you could build a DO and proper amp for much less than a commercial equivalent. cool.gif

The wife left for a few hours yesterday and got to spend some "playtime" with the setup. I think this was one of the first times I got to crank up "bass I love you" at full tilt. I continue to thoroughly enjoy the setup and listened to that track probably 6-7 times, checking on all the subs. I LOVE when the super low note plays and the projector goes wild, LOL. I damn near lost my hearing at that point so had to call it quits for a bit. biggrin.gif It's funny I thought it sounded great turned up to -5 or so with the subs 8-9db hot, but when leaning on the volume they just keep getting louder. AWESOME!

Gorilla, I really like the way you made your grills. I am definitely going to try my hand at your technique. I do have a question for you though. Was there a reason for stopping the grill above the port?

Nice build Rilla! How many are you going for overall? I am currently running 2 Dayton UM15's and could not even begin to imagine what 8 of the Dayton or SI 18's would do!

Thanks Marty. I've got 8 Dayton 18's powered by a FP14K clone and 2 SI 18's currently in the living with plans for 2 more powered by the XLS5000.

At some point you HAVE to move all 12 to the same place and give it a go. Preferrably upstairs to the suspended floor. I'm just saying...
