Well, good news and bad news...

Good news is:
I just got a new job. (Just signing the paper work officially on Monday morning.)
More money, which means an accelerated time-frame for MORE audio upgrades coming up.

Bad news is:
I have to move, which means abandoning my theater. There will be no more pictures or videos of my theater for quite some time.
I'll only be able to bring my HD800 headphones with me.

My upgrades will be limited to small objects. Like amplifiers, processors and whatnot. (I think I'll focus entirely on electronics for the most part as that is the current weak-point in my system.)
Those I can take pictures of, but my ability to use and test them will be fairly limited.

This is the first time in 15 years that I will be without access to my system. Kind of a radical change. I think there will be withdrawal symptoms FOR SURE!!! LOL

I think my neigh-neigh's will be happy with the increased silence, that is... until I come back home with at extra 70kW in my arms. hehe

Well congrats BTH! What's the new job like and how far do you have to move? You gonna entertain the idea of leasing out your main house with theater being locked under every known bolt, chain, and security system possible ;-)?

Sorry to hear this but it sounds like good news and bad news at the same time. I thought you had your own business? That was why you bought the new computer. Best of luck with your new job change is good.

Congrats on the new job BTH! Hope it works out great for you. Save up that extra pay until you're on your way back home, and then buy the latest greatest model!

I sold the business and its assets.

Well, I always laugh loudly when people "think" they can break into Area51. They have all sorts of security systems they don't talk about...

Have you ever been hit with a 1 million-watt microwave-cannon before? (Like the one in your kitchen, only 10,000 times stronger... and focused to a laser point.)
It turns your skin into burnt-bacon in 1 second, from miles and miles away. (Without producing 1db of sound I might add.)

They also have mobile versions of this stuff...

They also have 1080P Flir with optical zoom with a range of 10 miles and motion-detection, they can see perfectly at night and through fog/smoke too. (Their helicopters can as well.)

That is all...

Well you lost me, that's for sure lol.

So are you implying your getting into security with lasers to fry people for breakfast sandwiches with a side of tomato and mayo? Or are you just leaving your top secret affairs top secret? Was just curious about your new industry so to speak and if thought would be able to recoup some cash by renting out strictly the house lol.

I'll be moving 200 miles away.

I'll be back in the technology field.

That was my way of implying that one should not attempt to break into my house when I'm gone, because the full extent of my security system is completely unknown.

One should not wander over the red line, because the hills have eyes:

Area51 also has things buried in the ground, that you don't want to step on if you want to keep your legs, if you know what I mean...

So no renting out the house without a major hike in insurance premiums for those that would like to snoop around lol.

My vantage point top floor window gives me 1000s of yards of clear line of sight along with sensors so no worries here.

I have a fairly tight nit family.
I own both homes, mom and step-dad rent one, and sis and her husband rent the other.
I flip-flop back and forth whenever. I pay mortgage, they pay rent. It all works out.
I'm the only one in the family with an education and a 850 credit score. (Or any credit score for that matter... )

There is only one problem, I won't be coming back, not for the foreseeable future.

The move is temporarily permanent and permanently temporary.

At least amplifier technology doesn't change rapidly.
I'll make sure the projector and processor is bought at the end. (Ideally... I want a 2nd Generation UHD product, no 1st Gen beta rushed products if I can avoid them.)
I'm slowly bringing my system up to 4K/Atmos capability, without reducing SQ of 2-ch music, since I'm 90% music.

I'm thinking of replacing the 105/XSP-1 with a 7703 and UHD player, in combo with a Motu/DCX dsp stack.

The 7703 brings Atmos and 4K 60hz.

The UHD player replaces the 105's player role. (Not sure which, maybe the 8500 or Oppo 203D...)

The Motu becomes my USB DAC, replacing the 105's role. It also brings 24x48 channels of audio (in addition to the 9x18 DCX's I already have for bass-management, which I might get rid of...)
0x24 initially...

I was thinking of getting a XPA-6 Gen3 to reduce tweeter hiss and fan noise. Still sitting on the fence about this.

For the Atmos heights I'm not sure what I would build. I was thinking just some low-profile full-range drivers, I don't have a 10ft ceiling so...

Any personal experience with the Motu?
I need to read more reviews and the manual. We just need a 16 to 24 channel amp with what 300w per individual channel and dsp.

Lol BTH. You know what... At least you still have a nice display, and the capability to keep watching movies and shows. It's a far cry from your previous setup, but there has to be an up side to this arrangement or you wouldn't be there.

If that's going to be where you are for a while, I might try to pick up or put together a kind of "micro" HT setup. 5 (7?) tiny speakers and a little sub. Something that sounds good, if not loud. Maybe a mini portable projector, like a Pico or something. That could be enough to hold you over, and give you a new set of goals and benchmarks to chase. The smallest, best sounding theatre.

Completed my first day of work at the new job.

They took me into the restricted area. Here is a recreation of the sign I saw on the door from memory:

I've never worked with biological entities before.

I will be beefing-up the tech systems they use in the RA, that is the ONLY reason they brought me there... so that I knew where the equipment was located and what it's function was. (This way I'd know where they were if they needed fixing, and to see the current usage in action.)

One employee said she had been working there for years and has never gone into the RA zone, which makes sense... because they restrict access to avoid contaminating the entities with diseases that humans are carrying.

They had me wear bio-protective gear:
Level 1 was protective shoes, lab coat and a hair net.
Level 2 was feet washing, hand washing, gloves and multiple layers of protective head/face gear.

So at this point I was pretty much covered from head to toe...

I'm thinking Area 51, USDA, or some Pharmacutical facility involved in the making of experimental drugs and working with lab animals/aliens....

CDC. This is all about keeping terrorists out of the bio-goodies.

And all about the value of knowing stuff that only a few people know.

Can't say who it is, but I can say who it isn't:
No testing of pharmaceuticals for human application/consumption.
No CDC, no USDA.
No Bio-weapons or Terrorists.
No Zombies, no end-of-the-world stuff
(Sorry to disappoint? )

Working with. Yes.

Keeping body counts per containment sector.
Working on sensors to measure environmental conditions like temperature over time.
Working on sensors taking measurements of body weight over time.
Maintaining the database of records for all of that.
Upgrading old 90's code to 2020's etc.

I've already said too much... I should probably shut up now before I regret it. (If it's not too-late already...)

I got to see the inside of the electrical room of Site 1 today.
They have 3-Phase power. Each leg is rated for 300kW RMS!!!

To put that into perspective, a normal 200A house has 24kW per leg, and only 2!
(and older 100A homes are half that...)

I'd not an electrician, but those were the biggest breakers and power cables I've ever seen in my life to-date. (As thick as my arms.)

I wish I had access to that at home... I'd be able to make a room with 5 sides out of subwoofer-IB-wallpaper and STILL not blow the main-breaker! LOL
