Hi,

Me and a few friends in a HiFi forum in Sweden have created a Spotifylist whit music tracks containing lots of infrasonic bas. The rules where a set 0 dB level that the music normally plays at in the measurement setup, and information between 0-20 Hz has to be 50 dB above that to earn a place in the list. We also set up a rule that no more than 3 tracks from the same artist can be on the list.
We were surprised on hove many tracks we have found so far. Today the list contains 173 tracks!
The list is a open for anyone to add tracks, but I measure and delete all tracks that don’t fit the criteria’s.

Here is the list: <20 Hz bass-list

Here is an example of a normal track:
8190706638_7948078173_b.jpg
As you can see the bas level is around 0 dB.

Here is an example of a track that did make the cut:
8189624343_913c6f7742_b.jpg
As you can see +50 dB information between 0-20 Hz.

There are music from artist like Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Mike Oldfield, Tori Amos and Joni Mitchel on the list. No testtracks are alowed only "real music".

I have started to find so much materail whit +50dB bas <20Hz so I have raised the bar to +60dB. But I'm not removing already added tracks.

We are also compiling a best of list:
http://open.spotify.com/user/komorok/playlist/3hR9TNK5ZqpmbpLY9s7cB0
The plan is that this list will contain the top tracks that has the best infra bas tones, that you could easily feel (not hear) at home if your system is capable of reproducing this tones at any significant level. biggrin.gif

I think I have one of those songs currently on my hard drive "1step Klosur" or however you spell it, from Linkin Park. I also have it on DVD-Audio. smile.gif I'll make sure and test that with my new sub I'm going to build.

Does the quality of the compressed music have an effect on frequency response? IE does a 128 kbps song have the same low frequency content as 256 kbps?

djkest, I don't think compression affects infra-bas, all blind tests I have done on compression rates it has been in the treble are it has been clearly noticeable.

It's all too easy to dial in 7hz and put the pulse over a simple beat. I want to hear infrasonic sound used in a musical, or at least an artistic manner. As in "Music".

There is plenty of "real" music whit infrasonics. Look at the list above. Not as extreme as this of course. It's common in classical music recorded in bigg spaces, the room information seems to be in the <20Hz region.

Yes I'm very aware there is plenty of infrasonic content out there, since I compose music with infrasonic bass. Electronic music blows away Classical for quantity and quality of recorded sub-20hz content. Still, respect to the pipe organs and the concert halls of this world, it's an awe-inspiring sound. Here's my thread on AVS, since you are interested in the genre: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1424334/the-truth-hz-your-diy-setup-cant-handle-this-a-compilation-of-infrasonic-music-by-dub-king

Just for you I maid a sample of a Classical piece, it´s not Op. 42 1812 Overture, since that piece uses Canons for it's infra sound.

This is Joshua Bell, Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Philharmonic Orchestra playing The Red Violin: Chaconne For Violin and Orchestra.

I appreciate that, I do wish youtube did not butcher the audio, but c'est la vie. It's hard to appreciate music that's been compressed so heavily. My tracks are designed to actually freak people out and test the outer limits of DIY subwoofer systems that are powerful enough (in some cases) to run a whole IMAX auditorium. Soundcloud is a great way to share music, the fidelity is really high even when streaming. I prefer my classical music live, for me it's the Philadelphia Orchestra at Verizon Hall in the Kimmel Center, I can walk there from my house. Still one of the greatest Orchestras in the world and the sound is inimitable, there is no chance of accurately replicating it at home. That said, I can reproduce bass flat down to 16 Hz at reference levels and down to as low as 8 Hz without audible distortion and enough air movement to pressurize the room - and we're talking continuous sine wave. I ran into this thread back when it was new, I checked out some tracks and found it quite useful. You should check out music by Coil, they put ridiculous infrasonics into some of their tracks. Check out "Her Friends the Wolves" by Coil for absurd, stereo infrasonics in the single-digit Hz domain, from 3:30 onwards. Most people who's systems reproduce it at all will only be able to "see" the bass, in the form of ultra-slow woofer movement. Of course Youtube is far from ideal.

Coil wasnt available on Spotify, so couldn't add it to the list, but the Youtube clip did have plenty of infra around 16-18Hz. Strange music... wink.gif

Regarding the Kunzel/Telarc 1812, I've always been curious as to the spectral content, and how deep the energy really goes.

I would also check out How to Destroy Angels. They're produced by Trent Reznor and may also have some sub 20hz info.

I don't know how LOW it gets but there is a lot of bass in Lindsey Stirling's new self-titled album. A LOT of bass. I had a good time watching the Spectrum on Crystalize.

Specifically "Crystalize", "Elements", and "Stars Align" ; but really the whole CD. This is a nice pickup for people who love bass and want something a little different. It's Violin / Electronic mostly instrumental. I am not an expert on electronic music but I'd say the tracks are probably House / DnB / Dubstep.

Thanks for the tip! I liked Lindsey Stirlings style of combining classic violin whit modern beats. Sadly she has blocked here music on Spotify from us here in Sweden...

This track only goes to 25Hz but its a remix of something you have heard before.

I started playing around with Audacity and will be uploading my results.
