I have 2 Tempest X's both in their own sonotube enclosure. I have had these for about 3- 4 years now. Today I was playing music kind of loud, but not any louder than I have in the past. I soon noticed something was not right. One of the subs was not working. Then about 5 minutes later, the other one stopped working as well. These are powered by a Behringer EP2500. I thought something was wrong with the amp. I have a spare Crest Audio amp, and replaced it. Still nothing. Next, I took the speaker wire out from the amp, and took a double a battery to test each speaker. Nothing. I then disconnected the speaker wire from one of the subs, hooked up a different (spare) speaker and did the battery test again. It worked. the speaker popped every time I touched the wires. Next, I took one of the subs out of the sonotube, and I see no physical damage to the speaker anywhere. Does anyone have any ideas.

You've done some good troubleshooting, but multimeters are cheap and great for tracking down problems like this.
Get a meter. It is well worth it.

It sounds like both drivers have opened up, because if they shorted, I think you would have noticed the amps doing something about the short.
It is strange that they both went out so close to each other, but it could happen.
You've already checked for a loose connection inside the cabs, right? Like maybe something vibrated loose on the binding posts. Seems unlikely, but worth checking. At least do the battery test on the driver outside the cabinet.

Yes, I pulled them both out, connections are fine. What do yo mean the speakers opened up. Also, if I take my thumb and tap on the cone, it has a hard sound to it. Normally if you tap a speaker cone it has a thump sound.

Do the battery test. If the cone moves you're probably OK, if not the coils are probably blown.

I am thinking of replacing the blown tempest x's with these
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=295-420

My sono's for the tempest were very large. 15 cubic ft, tuned to 17hz. Do you think I can just drop these in, or will I have to modify the sono size.

So I bought 2 Titanics. Boy did I get lucky. I took out the tempest's, dropped the titanic's in. They fit perfect, no modifying and they sound awesome, very happy here.
