I saw this article about how 3D printers can be used to create a record. The whole thing had a DIY vibe to it so I posted here. Resolution is terrible - effectively 11kHz and 5 bit... but then again the technology is in its infancy. Will DIY types someday soon be able to 'print' LPs that play with the fidelity of a pressed record? As with all technology... baby steps first.

Seems like this would be the icing on the cake for someone who wants to take DIY to the maximum. The implications of 3D printing for speaker design are profound. Waveguides alone... imagine the possibilities.

Regardless, anyone who makes their own records... would likely also want to build their own DIY record player.

I wonder if quality could be improved by mastering a track to compensate for losses before printing to a pressing. I also wonder if a higher lubricity 3D printing material could be used to reduce wear on both the plate and needle.
