I am building these for forum member Zheka, originally these were going to be 10cuft boxes but after measuring the D4's they looked better in the larger ported boxes.

Pictures of the very nice looking drivers:

If you did not catch it in the SI thread here is the excursion video I made with a high FPS camera:

The enclosure is going to be 24"w x 30"h x 47.5"d built from 1/2" ply to keep weight down since these are going to be quite large and need to be moved to a different home. The port will be 10"w x 3"h x 20"L for a tuning of about 14-15hz.

Here is the sketchup model for the boxes:

Build will commence today so I should have an update later tonight.

That video just gets really dirty around the 2 minute mark and keeps getting dirtier until about 306 when it peaks.biggrin.gif

I started off assembling the slot ports. The panel on the end will be for the inside flare.

Here I am mark it out being sure to leave some excess material on there as it will be flush trimmed with the router for a nice smooth transition.

At the same time I was starting to glue the main panels together. Do you see something wrong with one of those clamps?

Here I am gluing the baffles together; one of those glue spreaders would come in handy for this.

Outside flare portion/lower baffle, cut and glued in place.

Then I started with the flush trimming and roundovers.

Once those where done I glued the woofer baffles on and glued that whole thing onto the box.

That is just about as far as I got over the weekend. The bracing will take some time to glue in, I have 25 two piece sections I need to glue together before I put them in and that is only for one cab. Anyone else use 100+ pieces of bracing in two subwoofers biggrin.gif

Wow.. that looks like it's bigger than 24"w x 30"h x 47.5"d, but wow. I'm looking forward towards your future progress.

Wow, this is going to be a beast of a sub.. Smart using 1/2" ply, I cannot even imagine trying to move this if it was 3/4" MDF.

Look forward to watching this thread.

You've got to be excited. These look so beastly. You also must have a huge home theater room.

My room is not big at all - 12'x20'x7'. The subs will be hidden behind AT screen, forming a pedestal for the mains. As Matt said, the original plan was for smaller enclosure but it has changed after the measurements. Believe it or not it is still undersized for optimal alignment.

I have a room I'm considering turning into a theater room that's similar in size, 18'x20'x8'. These seem very interesting as I was originally going to go with 2 dual opposed.

I am sure you would get great results with the dual opposed. The main reasons I decided to try vented are budget constraints and Matt's expertise and willingness to help.

With that sized room, I can basically guarantee that two D.O.'s with the SI's will work for you, even if you run the LFE at +5. My room is 11x29x8 and 4 SI's did it for me completely, I just had 4 more so I figured I would go ahead and get them in too biggrin.gif You know, just for fun?

Well right now I have 1 Malx-21 and 2 dual opposed MWF-15's, but they're in the man sports/bar room. Thinking of keeping the mal in that room and putting the other two in the gym and doing something with 18's. This slot port design just looks really impressive, I'm curious how they'd compare.
