Ok, 1,500ft^3 might be a bit of an exaggeration as my room does open to a hallway which leads to the rest of the basement. Regardless, I'll post up a basic basement layout soon.

I'll be posting up random pics and information through the progression of the thread, but when it's all said and done, this post will be cleaned up to house the table of contents for my build as follows:

Table of Contents

Big shout out to everyone who has motivated me to make moves and get my build going sooner than later. I'm about 50% complete and I'm going to need some help to finish up. As bad as I want to get this entire build done TODAY please be patient with me as I'm super busy at work and home...

Looking forward to building and learning with you guys!

Current Pics & Measurements

Just to get us started... Some of you may have already seen this pic, but it will have to do for now until I can talk someone with better photo skills than I to come out to snap a few HQ pics. Room is approximately 13'6" deep x 14'0" wide x 8'0" high.

Build Design Concepts

One of the reasons it took me awhile to start this build is because I'm definitely one of those "measure twice, cut once" kind of guys, at least in theory. In practice, I'm more of a "measure 7 times, cut once and then end up having to modify anyway" type of guy. Design concepts to be posted soon.

Concept - Right before final design (I'll try to get around to uploading the rest tomorrow)

The Front Stage Box Builds

Box was built by oversizing the panels by 1/4" and using a flush trim router bit to finish all of the edges. Turned out perfectly.

Random Acts/Pics/Videos of Destruction

Within the few day's I've had the first 8 up and running, I am going to go ahead and make an assumption that things will occasionally go ary. I'll use this post to document whatever issues pop up.

Videos

Video of my LG Clone Amp with and without the fan mod...

Irene Scene with all 16 subs active... Man, I love this scene...lol

Irene revisited with 8 x 18's active...

Same scene, different angle. Don't mind the nasty rattling... I need to move the amp for sure.

Destruction
And so it begins... Was listening to "Kickstarts (Bar 9 Remix) earlier today and my daughter came down and said "Mom, wants you to turn it down. She said you are messing up the stairs." I was like, "Whaaaaa the heck are you taking about?" Went to investigate and found this. It's the door frame leading into my basement.

Here is another shot a bit further down the stairs. If you look closely you will see cracking down the edge of the moulding. Same on the other side. Almost like my stairwell is trying to detach itself...

sub'd. interested in seeing how this one turns out. i have just started omnimic measurements with my 4 dayton 18's in ~2000cuft. seems like sub 20hz freq is boosted about 5-6db when the room's door is open vs. when the room is sealed. strange to me, but others may have known to expect that. your hallway opening may help you as well in that manner

I'll try to get some raw measurements tonight, then take some with my SMS-1. I have a miniDSP on the way, so I'm confident that I'll get the ULF that I'm looking for.

Get ready to be blown away! And, get ready to look into bigger mains lol. Love klipsch and have nice set of LCRs like you but they aren't in the theater anymore wink.gif

I still wonder at times if I would like 16 x18" better than my 10 21s as that was my original design but there weren't any 18s on the market "at all" when I settled for the 21s instead.

Your going to be moving more air than you can even imagine in a theater room! You'll truly have permagrin for a long time.

Now go measure less and cut more biggrin.gif

OK here is what is going to happen. You will realize that when you watch a movie at 10 dBs over reference that the bass during some movies will be too much on the ears so you turn it down a bit and find that sweet spot. I love overkill but I hate that I have to turn down the subs due to my ears but at least I know that the THD is below 2% at reference!

I have an idea for you popalock, sell the klipsch and get speakers that are more square so you can have dual stacked arrays in the front. This way when you cross them over it will always sound natural and that wall of sound coming from the front seems better to me than when I had all my subs in each corner of the room. Trust me when I say the response will be good either way unless your seat is in a null and you need a nearfield sub or something.

I was hoping the wall of sound would be better in my room so I could put all my subs up front but the difference is easily enough to make me put subs in the back half of the room.

It all depends on the room and the measurements. Here are 4 corners vs all front stage. Nevermind anything over 80hz.

4 corners

all front stage

Nice, looking forward to it! I, like you, am an absolute nut for ULF... I just want a setup that will make me want to tapout before it does...even at "demo/showoff" levels, which is something I have yet to experience in the HT environment...

Another important goal is to reach those "tapout" levels while maintaining the lowest distortion profile possible.

"tapout" level? Huh, Nick's CRX was as close to tapout level that I have ever been, I won't ever come close to that in a house.

Hummmm, sounds like a prescription for dual stacked DR250's? I've looked into them a few months back and they should be able to fit as L/R's in my current space no prob. Might be just what the Dr. ordered.

As for nearfield... I'm practically going to be sitting on the other 8, so I got that covered

I won't hold my breath though...

I have to agree with your daughter, your mains will now be dwarfed by your subs.

We will have to take a poll on this site, it is the Audio Video Science forum after all and you can't really argue with Science, your wife will have no choice biggrin.gif
