OH! I would have never gotten that one. biggrin.gif

Anyway, I was wondering myself. I was hoping there was a version in the works more suited for small sealed and vented enclosures.

I suspect your assessment is correct.

I did email them and they responded vaguely and never did give me any real info. Oh well, I guess I will have to pull the trigger on something else.

I don't blame em'. We start foaming at the mouth of mere mention of such hardware around here. tongue.gif

This, unfortunately will be a severe niche product. The "don't call me an IB sub" version is already ~$800 so I could see the 'versatile' version going for $1,000-$1,200 at least. Maybe more. frown.gif I have no idea, just speculating.

No doubt.
I have not modeled it in a 10 cube box. But, they say it works well in that.

I am on the fence with building another horn loaded with the LMS. But I also don't want to chew up that much real estate. So, two 24s would definitely allow for thin and short but very wide boxes.
I might throw two of these in something like a 18 D X 30 H X 130 W box. If I get time I will model it.

Or perhaps some is bored and will do it and post it before I do.

I agree with the niche statement for sure. However, that is a lot of displacement which equals less cone movement and lower THD if the design is decent. So $1000 might be worth it.

It looks pretty good in a 10+ cf sealed setup.

Does anyone have a winisd file they could share for this driver? I can't get the t/s parameters from the website to work.

I don't think so. I figure we would have an active build thread going or something if one did. frown.gif

I know there has been interest by a few here. Honestly, I think most people are on the fence and waiting for the larger motor version. I would and am. tongue.gif

Bummer.

An upgraded motor would be nice. However, if you have the cubes available, a larger enclosure would make up for it.

I think most people are on the fence because it's a total unknown, we don't really know if it will be awesome or a turd. I'm sure it will be sweet but to many unknowns at it's price range.

Am I seeing this correctly that the sub is rolling off below 40hz pretty fast? I am not impressed by that. I am impressed by the spl though.

That's typical for a sealed setup. You have to remember room gain and EQ.

Not so much that it's an unknown. I'm pretty sure it's going to sound fine. The problem is is that not many people want to drop $800 for a single driver that requires a HUGE enclosure. That's the issue.

Looks about right to me, considering. That's not in-room response.

Looks right to you as in the way it is suppose to look, or looks about right with what I said? I am not a pro when it comes to subs.

I mean, considering the T/S specs and what sized enclosure is shown that the results are what they are. If you want to see a lower knee then use the driver in a larger enclosure or shape the response with EQ.

However SPL at all frequencies is very good. Especially from a single subwoofer. Looks good.

That is a very normal and typical response curve for a sealed sub and desired for that matter. in most cases room gain will help the bottom and EQ does the rest.

OK. Thank you gentlemen for teaching me. I figured that you could just eq everything above 100db's to 100db's and have a flat response.

Yes, remember the posted response curve in anechoic. In room will likely be significantly different. If you are in a smallish room with corner loading you can expect different a response curve.

When you buy a commercial small sealed sub that is +/- 3db from 20 Hz to 100Hz (or some variant) the EQ has already been applied with the built in electronics/amp/

For sure!

I have the perfect use for two of these, even in a 20cf enclosure. I am just hesitant to spend that much on unproven drivers.
On the other side of the coin, SI has not been putting out junk either. So, I am sure it is a relatively safe bet.

Does in room response typically boost more of the lower fq's or the higher fq for subs?

Is it the same manufacturer that made these subs? The 24" looks way different than the 18" and I am obviously not talking about the size. Really it is the surround that looks way different.
