Naughty things are going on in my head now.

This woofer will work well in an IB alignment (F3 of 25 Hz) and we are working on making a larger motored version for use in HT that will work in sealed or ported enclosures.

gpmbc 04-19-2013 06:07 PM

I've heard rumor of some upgraded drivers for HT, is this what the talks about?

Not sure about any "upgraded" drivers for our current HT woofers. That talk didn't come from us.

...but we have been discussing this behemoth for a few months now. smile.gif We tried to keep it quiet but maybe it didn't stay as quiet as we planned. wink.gif

stormwind13 04-19-2013 06:23 PM

I want. Any ideas on pricepoint yet?

wvu80 04-19-2013 06:37 PM

The guy holding that sub speaker on his lap sure seemed like he was enjoying it.

I'm thinking he might have liked the sound it was making, as well...

24" woofer and quiet shouldn't be in the same sentence, probably not even in the same paragraph, or thread for that matter!

Oh my! These look massive. Any idea on the Sd? I can't imagine the raw displacement of this thing. Definitely will be looking for more info.

Any idea on price and when these will be available?

Nothing definite as of now. Price is looking to be $799 per 24" driver.

well that price will certainly be dependent on its performance. im guessing you guys are betting it can best a 18" LMS in output with less power needed then? hope so

bhazard 04-19-2013 08:36 PM

Hmm.

Diminishing returns kicks in with the price point I think. No matter how awesome this driver is, 4 or 5 18" drivers is probably better at the same price point of this 24".

Depending on frequency range specified, yes. Do the math on displacement. And does anyone know of the link to the Klippel data on the LMS Ultra to verify their Xmax claim?

Five very affordable 18" drivers at $200 each is $1,000. Four very affordable 18" drivers is $800. Still more than our 24" driver. wink.gif

Very true. It will certainly be user specific. I would prefer multiple drivers for smoother FR. I do like only having to build one cab though.

I'm not sure which would be cooler; 8 18's like PL's or dual 24's staring at you. Papa, grab a pair of these and do a side by side pic setup so we can judge for ourselves. biggrin.gif

all the data we need http://www.data-bass.com/data?page=driver&id=4

"Do the math on displacement. And does anyone know of the link to the Klippel data on the LMS Ultra to verify their Xmax claim?"

i haven't seen the klippel, but ricci's measurements on data-bass suggest a very linear driver.

in the 115db sweep, which produced 110db at 20hz 1m requires that the driver move about 26mm point to point and thd (from all sources not just bl non-linearities) was around 9%.

in the 120db sweep, which produced 114db at 20hz 1m because power compression was setting in requires the driver move about 39mm point to point and thd was around 12%.

so if we take xmax that gives 10% distortion, it would seem to be at least about 30mm, perhaps more.

audiovideoholic 04-20-2013 01:40 AM

I'm going to stick to the common sense approach. If can fit one driver in 1/4 to 1/5 the space to equal 4-5 times the amount of floor space then its a simple decision.

Most anyone that is considering purchasing a 24" driver for their HT is an extremist, and I'd guess that atleast 80-90% of the extremist on here will upgrade when the bug bites.

There may be a little advantage of seat to seat FR by going with multiple cheaper drivers off the bat but not enough to warrent the loss of future upgradable floorspace in my book (unless they are literally filling the room/walls with subs). And besides, I only really care about optimal FR at one or two seats when getting to this level. Not many people would notice the difference that view movies in my HT and are blown away no matter where they sit.My seat is my seat unless am demoing!!!! I just had this convo in another thread so going to stop there.

eek.gif Gulp! That is vulgar in all the right ways. I am looking forward see these in action.

carp 04-20-2013 06:53 PM

Nick, how well would these integrate with the SI 18's?

Realistically, I would prob wait for the sealed/ported box version because I can't accommodate an IB ATM, but man... I can't wait to check these out in person.

Nick, anyway you can post up a pic of the 24" next to the 18"?

What volume of air space will be needed for this one to run IB?

THIS THIS THIS is what ive been holding out for. . . . the wife only said one sub. . . . this will teach her. . . .

I'd be interested to see how the HT version actually performs. 24" subs are the other white meat lol
