I finally got the UMM-6 mic and to say I'm disappointed would be an understatement!
Can't believe how it arrived!
Pictures speak for themselves...

Wow that sucks! I am sure the folks at Cross Spectrum Labs will replace it.

Wow. Didn't it come in a plastic case?

Ouch. Mine came in a case and was bullet proof. But that was an ECM8000. I'm sure they'll do something about it. And if they let you keep the mic, it probably still works wink.gif

Hi and thanks guys...

What shocks me is that this had to have been broken when it was placed back in the case.
If it wasn't broken then it's obvious they broke it when placing it in the case.
My case is in impeccable condition, no scratches, no dents, nothing!

I'm shocked this went through QC! It should've never gone through and that's what's disappointing.

I have since put it together and applied some crazy glue, waited 24hrs to dry and ran some tests.
Thank god it works! My concern is if calibration is all off now!

Shame on you CS! Since I'm in another country (Not USA) sending it back is NOT an option
because it's way too much trouble for me!

I'm just happy it works and now hope the glue holds!

I don't think cross spectrum would knowingly ship a broken mic, doesn't make any sense. The shipping company must of had fun with your box!

I have actually had cases where the shipping company has opened up packages and repackaged them. I have pictures that one seller took of the packaging upon shipment, and it arrived in a completely different package. cool.gif

Reminds me of this when I first got mine from PE back in December:

Took two months to get a replacement, should have just changed my order to the Omnimic when it was on sale for $199

There must be issues with that part being a weak point, I know there have been others with the same problem.

Customs likely opened it. CS is a well regarded company. And if its a weak point, as MTG pointed out, then all it would take is a curious customs officer wondering if its a bullet, a bomb, what ever. May have snapped and they never admit to breaking merchandise.

This is Herb from Cross-Spectrum, sorry to hear about the mic. To put folks mind at ease, I most certainly did not knowingly ship a broken mic, it not worth losing or having a black mark against my engineering license over $50. I have had a couple of foreign mic shipments that were received broken (UK and Australia) and there have been several customers that have had the barrel snap off when they dropped the mic, so I suspect the UMM-6 is (unfortunately) delicate.

Something that I don't publicize, but I will do so now, again to put folks mind at ease - whenever there is an issue with an overseas mic, I generally don't require that mic to be shipped back to me, I just ship out a replacement and take the loss (I'm hopeful that me announcing this won't result in a rash of foreign customers ripping me off).

If you get a mic from me that has a problem, please contact me and I'll make it right. In the case of someone overseas receiving a broken item, I'll ship out a replacement ASAP and make an insurance claim with USPS, but it's too late for that in Freniata's case. Freniata, if you're okay with your mic, fine, but if not, email/pm me directly and I'll see what I can do for you.

If the barrel is glued on straight, the calibration should be fine. But if you don't trust it (and I'll understand if you don't, I'm not sure I would), contact me and I'll get you fixed up.

***********************************UPDATE****************************************

Just wanted to give an update re: my broken mic (Pic above)

I NEVER expected what has happened in the last few days...
Herb, wrote me a PM, here on AVS, wanting to make this right.
I never wrote nor complained to CS and yet they reached out to me.

I am EXTREMELY impressed by this gesture of sending me a new mic free of charge.
I received a tracking number and all.

Like I said in my PM to Herb,
I swore on my family's heads that I received the mic broken as is in the picture in the 1st post.
I sincerely hope people are truthful if they say they received it broken.

Thank you Herb for what you've done.
A very impressed and satisfied CS customer!

Thanks!
Freniata
