How on earth did you get the wife to go along with that? Must be selling a clone or something.

Yeah, sometime next week you'll see a fp14k clone in the classifieds. Between that and the Yamaha amp I'm selling I should be pretty close to breaking even.

Luke - I played with the CC4000 a few months ago and was impressed. I'd imagine the 5500 will be a monster, especially one on each sub.

I was going to get a few CC4000 amps but I was able to find the CC5500 for less than $40 more.

That and the CC5500 has the beefy 10awg cord with the 30A twist lock plug smile.gif

Below 40hz I'll have to be careful not the blow up the 21s!

I am a huge Crest/Peavey fan boy. I have owned the CC4000 and 5500 along with the PA150, Pro 200 series, CM series and my original CA9 from way back.

I'm currently debating on either 2 new clone fp14's or hopefully finding 2 crest prolite 7.5's.... I like my ipr2 7500 but would like to try a crest 7.5 if I could find one!

Blasting brown notes for 10 years and counting!

I messed around with placement again. Before it was the GH doing too much and the OH doing too little.

I slid the GH 2ft forward and put the OH where those used to be, and that alone added over 15db to the 30-45hz response of the OH. The response is rockier, but amp wise it's a ton better and playing right into what the OH is good at:

OH: 37hz 48db BW high-pass
GH: 32hz 48db BW low-pass

Luke - Are you running any boost down low? If not, holy built in house curve!! I'm thinking the Othorn will be my first project once I get the full size CNC up and running.

Would you believe me if I told you I have -3db at 19hz with a Q of 5 EQ applied?

Well.....I know you've powered them up by now. Very curious to hear what you have to say, I was heavily considering a pair of open box 5500s on ebay a few months back.

That's what these were. Open box from "audiosavings"'. I made sure they were listed on Crest's website as a dealer before buying from them. Amps are mint except for one bent rack ear.

And surprisingly, I just powered them up for the first time tonight. They have oodles of power. I played a track with the othorns and brought the clone to really heavy clipping and watched the spl meter. I then put these amps in and brought the same track to the same spl. Surprise surprise, the crest's fans didn't even turn on...

More tweaks...

Here's the phase from the LP about 12ft from the subs:

I have the OH's crossed at 28hz, and the GH's crossed at 26hz.

Looks great, Luke!

Hey, what's the thought on letting the G-horn operate up a bit higher and sharing some of that bandwidth with the O-horn? I'd let a G-horn go up to at least 50hz going off it's own capability anyway.

Just a thought.

The OH is much more sensitive than the GH, and their rate of decay is different as well. Trying to do to much overlap is tricky because the delay at different frequencies varies a lot for each sub. What worked at some frequencies caused cancellation elsewhere, and it was hard to find a good mix.

On top of that, over 25hz, the OH has more output, and in my case, more amp as well. In my opinion, above 25hz, the OH is just simply better. Cleaner, punchier, more efficient. Above 40hz, it was hard to combine the two without it sounding a little "bloated", but, I'm really picky!

Ah. I had never thought about all that. Good point, sir!

I was just thinking that it looks like the G-horn is operating over a very narrow bandwidth. I figure opening it up would net much more 20-50hz but you're right. The O-horn should own up there.

Ricci's the man for designing and sharing these things.

Funny enough, my brother was just over and he'd never heard the horns before. During and after a demo, we were both yawning to equalize the pressure in our ears...not joking.
