Hey Gorilla83 Where are you in DE? I'm in New Castle and Russel Plywood carries baltic birch in all thicknesses with the 5' X 5' sheet being standard but 4 X 8's are available. They do deliver in tri-state area but call them for requirements @1-800 -373-1004. Their main warehouse is in Reading, PA and have the satellite warehouse in New Castle

Ricci has stated already that HE is not giving the plans out anymore. The Ghorn's driver isnt available and he has given the Othorn plans out to plenty of people. SO maybe someone else can give you them but Ricci is not doing so anymore.

You want Ghorn V1 or V2 plans?

Luke...I sent him the GV2 plans, but did not have Othorn plans. Would you mind swinging those my way when you get a moment? Thank you, sir.

Here's the impedance of the 21-IPAL loaded in the Othorn. I measured this with a pair of Fluke meters so I could capture volts and amperage at the same time.

I started with 1v of output from the amp but that was getting annoying to listen to, so I switched to .5v for the remainder of the measurements.

I better go check the thread on the forum at DB and see what that lead to.

There were some questions about the actual resistance of the load being presented to the amplifier during music playback. The 21-IPAL driver has a DCR of 0.7ohms, which is obviously unusually low.

The first track I chose was around 2.1ohm during the lowest part of the track around 33hz. I then chose another track that opens with 6-7 seconds of 27.5hz. The track is the "low and slow" version of "Earth" by Bass Launch. Here's what the SpecLab of the beginning of the track looks like:

Here's the 6 second loop of the track I created to measure the voltage and amperage with:

This track presented a 1.2ohm load to the amp.

Using a Fluke 117, which measures RMS voltage, I then measured how much voltage I could get from the SP2-12000 under that load.

I measured 86.5v at the threshold of clipping, which produced 131.1db at the LP from a single Othorn (at 27.5hz).

I pushed a little further to 88v which produced 132.0db and clip lights on the amp.

That much power to any single driver can become catastrophic really quick, so I limited these "bursts" of the Bass Launch track to about 2 seconds.

I noticed no one at DB could be bothered to do the math because they're all too busy trying to write snarky posts to one another, but that's just over 6.2kW (86.5^2/1.2).

Well most people at the DB forum know the math and use volts to describe power. I know majority use watts here but after simulating a LOT of designs I use volts now also. BUT ya the thread is a bit all over the place.

Yesterday I did the same test just with both channels driven this time.

I was able to hit the same 86.5v without clipping and registered 139.0db.

I then bumped the volume by .5db and registered 91.3v and 139.3db...? Also, no clipping with this?

I then bumped the volume by another .5db and registered 91.3v briefly and it then went back down to 86.5v. The SPL briefly hit 139.6db but went back down to 139db. I assume there were clip lights but I only ran the test at this volume once since after this I could smell a little bit of voice coil from the subs if I got right up next to them.

It doesn't appear that that 2ch vs. 1ch has any impact at all on the output. Considering it is two independent amp modules in a single chassis, I guess that makes sense.

Hi Luke,

I must say, your Othorns came out very nice! Do you have a lot of experience with woodwork?

I mostly use Polyurethane paint on my cabs, but the Duratex looks good (You use Duratex rigth?)
Something i have to try out

I currently have four Cubo 18" loaded with Royal Turbomax 1500s.
I need more SPL under 45 hertz, and here the Cubos are a little weak.

looking for other designs the Othorn got my attention, extension below 30Hz and more SPL than my Cubo over 40Hz... Seems to be a good upgrade and also pair up good with two Xtro above 80Hz.

Sooo, could you please send me the plans for the Othorn V2?
My email is: "sgjorstad@cokecce.com"

Ricci.
Thanks to you, people like me can build powerful and better cabs than the OEM
Good luck with the PaleHorn, looking forward to see some measurements.

Thanks, Simen.

When I started this hobby in 2011 is really when I started woodworking as well. I learned as I went and acquired tools along the way.

Next time I'll try and get some driver excursion for the Othorns. I've avoided it thus far because getting it means I have to be in close proximity!

So that's how you pay for all these things! Rattle change out of unsuspecting enthusiasts pockets.

Wow, that's some serious tactile feel at your MLP although Othorns placed at front wall makes me really want to build dual Othorns
