The only rule is that you have to provide us all the parameters below (the more the better at least)... so that we can gauge the scale and how well you are or aren't doing on the cable carnage aspect.

I'll go first.

-no cable management applied
-20 devices interconnected and powered
-15 channels of amplification wired and powered up (10 subs, 7 floorstanders)
-Amp room is 160 cubic feet; 4x5x8
-44 square feet of shelf space. [~60RU's equivalent] 17sqft of it unused.
-age of the rack: 3 months
-age of the oldest device: 10 years old
-average age of the devices: about 6 years old

Ok, here is the good part (don't worry it all goes downhill from here... biggrin.gif)

Main junction:

I've done pretty decent job of isolating the power cables from the low-voltage stuff, they only intersect where they need to and perpendicularly.
Not too shaby IMO; I could do better though (if I cared to).

Now... from angles that make it look like a nasty pig biggrin.gif

Main Power & Interconnects junction (Full View)

Network spillover

4sqft of XLR spillover (don't ask tongue.gif)

Main speaker wire junction (work-in-progress)

Secondary Power Junction

Your turn to show your blasphemous cable carnage. tongue.gif

I'll go next.

-there was cable management at one point- that point has long passed.
-12 devices interconnected and powered
-9 channels of amplification wired and powered up (2 Subs, 2 towers. 4 surrounds, 1 center)
- 42u Rack
-age of the rack: 3 months
-age of the oldest device: Approx 10 yrs
-average age of the devices: about Approx 4 years

Is that even a HT system?

I'll be returning to this thread with before/after pictures in a few weeks.

Nope, just a random "cable spaghetti" pic to try and get an OCD meltdown out of Kimeran. wink.gif

My cables are always a mess. If I put a system together and left it, then I would make it neat. I don't think I have left my system alone for more than 2 months. Just today, I pulled all my equipment out. Removed two pro amps and installed a 6 channel consumer amp and made room for another pro amp I have ordered. I also changed locations of some of the equipment. Within the next week or so, I will be re-wiring part of this. Going active with my front three speakers. All I do is label my wires and make sure I keep all power wiring away for audio and video. I don't even let them cross, keep them completely separate.

I'll make about a 4-5 hr effort every 6 or so months to organize my cables. But I mess around with my system too much for it to ever stay put.

I am glad I am not the only one. The problem with my living room and home office both is that I change things often enough that it can never really be organized.

I purchased some wire loom a year and a half ago and still have it in the package. I will try to make an effort to 'clean it up' a bit. I'll post before and after pics but I am not making any promises.

Apparently this is common among DIY'ers. I guess we all change things so often, that we can't keep our wiring very neat. smile.gif
As long as I can keep my power wiring away from video and audio, I am fine with what I have.

On the topic of Audio OCD, I saw a dealer use a carpenters-level to level each shelf and amp and speaker to ground-plain (both width and length-wise) and position all gear with a laser measure, and then proceeded to lift all the cables off the floor with woodblocks. It was on youtube.

Bollocks. A hundred 200mm velcro cable ties cost about $10 delivered. And I am far from OCD.

Velcro ties get in the way and slow me down. I rewire something every week. But I also have a very simple setup, so I'm fortunate that way.

My wiring is not such a mess like what has been shown in this thread. It is actually half way neat. I do use a few cable ties. I just do not go to the extreme of making it look like a finished product, because I will be back making changes often. I separate all power cabling and I support my heavy duty HDMI cables so that they do not put extra stress on the HDMI inputs. Last Saturday, I pulled everything out of my rack and re-arranged my equipment so that it would be easier to keep the wiring separated. So everything was re-wired Saturday. I was back in it today, because I am working to convert my front three to active. Have my center left to do.

That was when I had the JBL pro 3622Ns with my 8 sealed eD 18s. The McIntosh MX-132 was at the helm back then.

Thanks man. I am actually considering upgrading my SHO-10 LCRs for JBL 3722Ns possibly. Im wondering if Id see a big enough difference to upgrade to them or save up for a few years and get the 4675Cs?

Sorry for off topic.

The 3722N would be fine or the 4722Ns. The big difference would be the Midbass and huge dynamic sound. Many speakers can play loud but some have that huge dynamic impact when loud and others are just loud(still good though). The last time I watched Super 8 I used my upgraded cinema 12. That speaker should be at least as good as any SEOS speaker since it used the DE-250 and even a better 3012HO woofer which kicked butt! They SEOS horn is supposed to be better than the eD horn but I was flat in room anyways. Well, I just watched it at reference with dual stacked arrays and it is not close at all, it scared the crap out of me several times! That is dynamic impact! Btw the speakers must have broken in or something because the Midbass is now very close to the dual 15 JBLs. JBLs still have the edge though.
