How big is that transformer. I mean in excess of 1.25 MVA (Mega!) is huge! tongue.gif

Well, the transformer itself weighs 34+ pounds. That's "huge" in my book for home equipment, though it would be puny in industrial terms.

(EDITED transformer weight....just found my notes)

Arcam AVR300, Adcom GFA-5500 (Main L+R), Acurus by Mondial A200x3 for center and surrounds, Panny BDT-500 Media Transport, Toshiba SD-9200 CD Transport, MiniDSP 2x4 HD, Vizio XVT 55" LED/LCD (full direct-backlit w/ local dimming), Darbee DVP-5000S, Center and L+R is pending, pending subwoofer.

If it's 34+ pounds, it could be 1.25 KVA. If it were MVA it would be the size of your car.

I just checked. A 0.5 MVA transformer weighs about 5000 pounds.

Yeah, MVA is a different universe.

A very small car. 1.25MVA is about 1.5m cubed depending upon manufacturer and fittings, just for the tank itself. Switchgear would require extra room.
They weigh a lot because there is a lot of silicon steel in the cores.

Reminds me of when I almost replaced a 3,000uf PS cap with a 30,000uf...just because I was lazy and didn't put my glasses on. Glad I double checked everything before plugging it in. biggrin.gif
