Thank you...

Tux,

Thanks so much for your review of the 1099.
I asked because I know you hadn't heard them in a while and also knew that your review would be modest.

For myself...I know people think that I preach these a lot and I know they know how much I love them.
they are COMPLETELY wrong!
I f**ken love them to death!!!
I just can't get enough of them.

One must keep in mind that I have a VERY QUIET dedicated soundproofed/sealed HT room.
I also have VERY HIGH quality music files.
I also think I have some pretty good ears and know what I'm hearing with these.

I also told you (via PM) that I did a side by side comparo with the Wislon Pupies that my friend owes and that
at the end of the day, all 3 of us were blown away with the 1099's.
that's all I'll say!

I say again...these speakers are unreal. I also say they SUCK in the low dept!
I know they aren't designed for the low end.
But you see, I have LOTS of low output with dedicated subs and the 1099's are crossed at 80HZ, I am living a dream every time I listen to music/movies with these.
The mid's on the 1099's are unf**ken real.!!!!

to say that I'm completely blown away with the 1099's is an understatement !

thank you again for your review

You crack me up fatshaft. I appreciate the feedback. You raise good points to keep in mind as well. Good music, good setup, good subwoofers. All critical to getting the most out of these. I think if someone bought these without knowing better, and didn't use subs, they'd be quite dissappointed. They have a sloping response from about 100hz and down. And below the 55hz tuning they're useless. That isn't to say they can't do 80hz well, they can, they just can't do full range by any stretch. That's the sensitivity trade off. Thankfully two 10s is a lot of Sd if someone needs to EQ 3db at 60hz they'd probably be fine. If crossing that low was really important to them or something.

Oh, and I used only a single baffle (your CNC baffle). Is 14.5" with a double baffle? That would make them even closer.

It's 14.5" with a single baffle. I didn't see any reason to use a double baffle with these smaller chambers.

I know eh. As if his username makes you think of golf clubs, haha. What a freak, although, I admittedly have done nasty things to a port before. Sometimes I plug them real good, so see what sealed alignment would be like...

Those ports are slot ports, so maybe change your name to flat-shaft instead?

Good call, finally finished up the thread. I found the answer to my first question but I must have skipped over the waveguide height. Also after reading through everything, I think I will take my chances and go with these over the tempests without waiting to hear chaluga's comparison. I would order them right now but the money I tranferred into the account that's linked to my paypal is taking forever to go through. I'm sure they'll be gone again before it clears

Update: I checked my account one last time before bed and the parts went through. Just ordered two of these with the flatpacks

I have enough amps and MDSP's to go active with these speakers.
Is it a simple task (for someone in the know) to translate the passive XO to an active one or do you have to start from scratch?

Also is there any advantage to doing active over passive on this speaker?

Thanks,
Moto

Although I can't give you a straight answer, from my research & experience, setting up an active crossover is pretty much just as difficult to get right aa a passive. You will definitely need measurement gear. I had purchased three Behringee iNuke1000dsp amplifiers that I have planned to use for my active crossovers, just have to wait until I can afford a measurement mic.

You can definitely get sound a lot quicker and easier with an active crossover, and with that in mind, you can tweak and experiment to your hearts content a whole lot easier ok an active setup. Take that for what it's worth.

I think that Tux has said that going active requires just as much work since there is more to it than simply setting a couple of crossover points and calling it done. I also don't believe there would be any useful benefit to going active with these, but I could be wrong. The passive crossover components included with the kit should certainly be able to handle anything you throw at them.

What changes are you making to the Fusion 10? I just ordered (2) of these a few days ago. What is going to be different and is it worth waiting to get a newer design?
