I'm a little confused. I thought there was a replacement midrange for the celestion . The 1099 is being discontinued because too many or not enough asked about it .

The 1099 has same amount of woofers that fusion 8 tower has and its just starting.

Yes, you are confused. The 1099 uses 10" woofers. The Fusion-8 uses 8" woofers. The smaller the woofer, the more retailers seem to keep in stock. You can buy 500 4" HiVi woofers tomorrow from PE, but they don't carry that many 10" woofers.

The 1099 uses a buyout midrange that was made by Celestion.

The 1099 is not being discontinued, but when the midranges are gone, so is the speaker. People keep asking me when it will be back up on the site, but it's hard to keep it in stock because it's not easy finding enough woofers to keep it in stock. I can get them from Eminence, but I can also get them with a black cone if it's going to be done. That way people can pick the black cone, or the blue cone.

No one needs to contact me or send PM's. I'm just mentioning what seems to be a good idea.

A replacement hasn't been found. But Erich bought most (all?) the stock. Quite a few I think. Despite this, it will one day end. The preorder doesn't mark the end. It's just so people can be certain they'll get a pair. Like you Donny with just your center right now. Or someone who plans to move in a year or what ever. Erich will hold them and you'll know you'll get them. And this way he gets a feel for how many black woofers to get Eminence to make. He's gotta shell out big money for that and gauging interest will help.

I am a bit surprised though, I thought there were tons left. ? Maybe it's more about the black woofers order.?

Can't tux just come up with a different mid to use? I know that he had mentioned it before when you talked about the mids being discontinued.

No reason to PANIC. That isn't really the issue right now. There are enough mids for a while. The main issue is trying get enough 10" woofers. Only being able to get 20 or so each time means there's only 10-12 speakers listed and people miss them.

We can get a larger order of 10" woofers so the kit stays up longer, and even make them black.

I'm just saying that if the woofers got here and a lot of orders came in, midrange stock could dwindle fast. So doing a preorder would at least guarantee all of us could get them before they were gone. Heck, I haven't even built mine yet.

Wish pe would stock the 10" woofers better. How do you keep tempest in stock with 12" woofer ? I know it has only one woofer but its very popular .

The pre order for woofers sounds pretty cool, especially for guys that don't like the blue woofer cone.

They do just fine keeping a 'normal' stock of woofers. But the 16 ohm Delta isn't nearly as popular as the 12" Delta Pro, so they don't have a reason to keep 60+ rarely used models in stock.

Yes, I could contact PE and order 60+ of those woofers. But if we did that, might as well do 60+ of the black coned model so people could have a choice between both and they'd be in stock longer.

Seems like a good idea.

I think this is a great idea, as I am in this exact situation. I want 3, but getting them right now is not going to happen due to the new wife(got married Saturday) But I know in 6 months, maybe sooner the acquisition of these awesome speakers will be possible and I don't want to miss them.
So if and when you start the pre-order Erich, put me down for 3.

Just come up with an "upgrade mid" ... No one will want the buyout woofers if history teaches us anything

A pre-order would be great for both parties as Eric can have a better idea of how many people actually want 1099s and customers have the potential of knowing whether or not to stay in the game for the set.

With that said, I'm hoping to land 3 before permanent extinction. I'll be waiting patiently for however we decide to proceed with a pre-order list.

Erich, do you have any idea how many people own 1099's? It might be difficult to know exactly, but reading all this "the end is in sight" for these speakers, I feel even more proud to be one of the few that owns them.

Being a proud owner of this wonderful creation, should I be worried of say one of my mids blows/fails?

Now that would be the most depressive day in my life if I could not find a replacement and would have to ...oh I don't know...upgrade say to a 1599 by then?

Thanks

I will keep some of the mids aside for a few years just in case there are ever any issues, but I doubt there's any need to worry about that. They're very well built and barely need to work compared to the design they were originally used for.

I don't recall how many have been ordered yet. It's not a huge amount or anything like that, but packaging them up has certainly kept me busy.

Guys, I'll try to figure out how to set this up in the next day or so.

That's really quite narrow and in the sweet spot for 8s.

Any measurements of the Cinema 88? I just can't help but think there's a midrange hole like Matt and I got on our similar setups. I mentioned it to Matt here: TD15M - SEOS12 - BMS4550 / theater progress / Dual TD6M - SEOS12 - BMS4550 build. :D

If it does have that hole, then I'd cross in the woofers just below the hole. It really would be the best way to get a 1599. Doing one passively would be a lot of work. But this idea would also require dsp and amps. But if you're building a 1599, that really shouldn't be an issue.
Would 6" mids make more sense than 8" mids ?

I would like to get on a pre-order for three 1099 with the black woofs as well. Erich, I was wondering if I could order an extra flat pack and baffle when I get these. Currently have a fixed screen but plan on going AT when upgrading screen size for 4K sometime in the coming years and would make for a quick swap to matching vertical center.

First speakers I bought when I was 14 were some KLH AV5001 3-way speakers that went through college with me and had sentimental value. This being a Seos 3-way originally being modular (so I could have easily swapped center), I have been following this from the beginning. This seems like a great time to jump in and get a hold of some with black cones before the buyouts are gone.

This is just a thought so I don't want to get lambasted by someone who disagrees. My favorite HT speakers are the Klipsch THX Ultra 2. But they're ridiculously priced IMO. They're also made in China which is ridiculous for a system that costs $13,000 usd. The Klipsch speakers orient the horn vertically with the woofers aligned vertically next to the horn. To make the 1099 like this you would just build them oriented like your center cheannel and stand them up vertically. I think the horn layed out vertically like this helps in separation and directs the sound towards the listeners. I know the Klipsch image very well. Has anyone thought of orienting their SEOS1099's like this? Has anybody tried it?

That would defeat the whole purpose of these speakers - which is to give good horizontal dispersion, and keep the reflections off the ceiling and floor minimized. Turning a SEOS waveguide sideways like that would create floor and ceiling reflections, and it would narrow the horizontal dispersion from 90 degrees to 60 degrees.

The KL-650-THX can be had for $800per speaker, is that really considered ridiculously expensive now a days?

They had a buyout on the drivers for these a while back. Don't remember the prices but here was a guy selling drivers and horns for 3 fronts for $200.
