Have been thinking about what improvements I can make to my system, audio wise. I have been thinking about the top end and the low end. For the top, I have toyed around with the idea of building a speaker with the Bemya TPL-150H. Just not sure that I will gain much for the money spent. I am an HT guy, not one to sit and listen to music. For the low end, I have been thinking about using a pair of AE TD18H drivers in sealed boxes. Thinking about a couple of options.

Option 1. Convert my existing SEOS-12/DNA-360 with TD12M over to a three way speaker by having bass bins under the two-way speakers. I would use the passive crossover of the TD12M/SEOS/DNA-360 and active for the TD18H in the sealed box. Could either run them as small with 40hz crossover or full range.

Option 2. Still use the TD18H in a pair of sealed boxes, but use them as subs rather than as woofers in a three way. If used as subs, I would have them for the upper bass and have two SI-18's, one 18" Mal-X and two 12" TC Sounds for the lower bass. I am looking for better transient response in the 40hz to 120hz area. Since I have subs right below all my speakers, I would run the crossover up around 120hz.

What do you guys think? Also what size sealed box would you use for the TD18H's? I currently have 42" x 22.5" x 12.5" sealed boxes under my mains. They each have an SI-18 in them. Thinking about placing the TD18H's in those and building a dual opposed box for the SI-18's.

As you can see from my posts lately, I am itching for a new project. smile.gif

check out n8dogg's setup--jbl 2242's in sealed enclosures under jtr noesis run from 60hz to 240hz iirc. he reports good results (nice big mid bass impact that was lacking with the previous configuration).

Will do. Sounds like he did what I am looking at doing.

Thank you,

Mike

I agree. Going with option #1 or similar to what N8 has done would be the way to go, imho.

OP I'm in the same boat. I built my jbl 2242s the same as N8 and in my previous dedicated room which was way smaller I got good results. In my current scenario, the theater is open to the whole house so no go. I'm wanting to port them like the jbl asb6118 which is tuned to 28hz and run pretty much same as you 40 to 120hz.

You're right 28hz is -10db, -3db at 35hz. Still ideal for 40hz duty?

I sent an email to John to see what the current lead time is for the TD18H drivers.

Does Erich have any boxes for dual opposedSI-18's? Reason I ask, If I use the existing boxes I have under each main for the TD18H's then I will need another box for the dual opposed SI-18's that will get moved to the back of the theater. Just seeing if I will need to build a new box or if Erich has something already built? Did not see anything on the site, but thought others had purchased some from him.

I plan to build some mid-bass utilizing some JBL 2226's. I plan to cross them over actively to my Sierra-1's, and use the stock crossovers in my Sierra-1's for the mids and highs. I am interested to see how this works out for you.
