Which one would you pick for sub duty? I was in the market for the CV5000 until I came across the XLS5000. Now I do not know which way to go. I know the CV5000 has tested what the specs say but I could not find test results for the XLS5000. Anybody have those?

My plans are to get four SI18 subs. I am not sure if I want to run them off of one channel stereo or two channels or bridged. once I figure that out, I can decide on the d4 or d2 voice coils. The website says that they are 600w RMS, so I am thinking to running them two subs per channel @4ohms. That would be around 900w per sub.

I think that I am on the right track but I need to confirm before I spend the money. Thanks guys.

The CV5000 was tested?

I thought that I read a while back that somebody tested it and the test result were spot on to the specs. I thought that I also remember seeing that it was pulling close to or a little over 30amps. Maybe I am mixing that up with another amp?

I was considering the CV5000 but couldn't find any test data...

yea after searching again for it, I must of had it confused with another amp.

So what do you think about how I will run my subs? any thoughts on that?

Either the crown or the CV will work fine, but two ep4k's might be cheaper.

Those don't put out nearly the watts they claim. I have an ep2000 right now and I am not impressed by it. From the bench testing it showed 500 watts @2ohms stereo and that is 200 watts short of what they claimed.

While I haven't technically tested the cv5k, I have a slew of them and they put out horsepower! They really are powerhouses, I have a single cv to 4 Dayton 18's and they had power to spare.

The ep4k tested around 1,900w in a 4ohm bridge:

http://www.avsforum.com/t/855865/measuring-amplifiers/60#post_10755565

That's going to be more power than the other amps in 4ohm stereo per channel.

the inuke 6000dsp would seem to be a good match for a quad set. dual 4 ohm for 8 per driver, 2 in parallel per channel, puts you at 4 ohms net per channel, which is tested at 2200 watts (more or less) per side 4 ohms, or about 1100 per driver. plus you get the dsp built in. and don't forget the behringer name to impress all your friends and avs acquaintances!

just don't tell me that you are going to be build'n marty's!

Listen. It's All Good.

Yeah, that's an even more cost effective solution! Those are what, right around $500?

This is intriguing! Where can I read the bench test at? I have heard bad things about the inukes because they are light weight. Whats up with that? I do not really care about their weight but performance and from what you say it sounds as though they do a good job at that. What size breaker do I need for one of those?

something absurd like that, but who knows. behringer is such a wildcard, but i would imagine that there are a ton of folks beating the snot out of inukes and i'm not hearing a ton of failure reports, except ricci's but he seems to find a way to blow everything up. :-)~

Don't the XLS series roll off below 20hz also? Or is that model specific within the XLS lineup?

I am not sure. I need to research some more. I have to say that the CV5000 is still in the lead on my list. After reading the bench test on the inuke6000, I am just not sure. Some thing I like about it and some things I don't. I am not really concerned about the price difference and I only want to do this one time so spending the extra 200 dollars the first time might save me money in the long run if I decided the inuke just wasn't for me.

Are these subs going to be sealed? If so I would either go with the iNuke 6000dsp or EP4000 with a MiniDsp so that you can apply boost on the low end and have EQ capabilities as well.

The subs will be sealed. I already have a mini dsp also, but I am wondering why you are recommending those amps for tuning purposes when i can also do the same with the cv5000 and mini dsp?

We know the ep4k extends into the single digits. The CV is an unknown.

That is another thing for me to think about dang it! I don't know if I can even reach single digits with the SI 18's.

You see, this is why I posted on here. You guys have been awesome at giving me info that I didn't know.

you can reach single digits with any speaker, the question is how loud. another question might be if you could tell in a blind test the difference between a sealed and a ported, but I won't get into that one....

Well, you said sealed, so I think single digits smile.gif

We've heard numerous times the CV5k has some serious power, but the reason there are questions about it's sub 20hz response is because of experiences with the Marathon MA-5050. The CV and MA are both clones of the Crest CA-18.

CV5000 ratings on paper are +/-3dB 5Hz-25kHz (IIRC). I haven't yet found any real life bench testing, though.

It is a BEAST, though, the best part of 6 stone in weight biggrin.gif Can't wait to get mine up and running!

The XLS5000 is an anomaly in the XLS line. All the other XLS amps are lightweight class D amps, but the 5000 is most certainly not either of those things...

Partially true, the XLS 1000 1500 2000 2500 are the class d drivecore amps and not related.

The XLS5000 is from the xls 202 402 602 802 lineup none of which are class D

Thanks guys, did some searching in the meantime, too. Are there bench tests of the 5000? Couldn't find any....

i'm not aware of any, but the amp that it was copied from is kind of a legend...crest ca18. it appears to be a pretty good copy too.
