Hey,

Starting a new build, and also new to DIY sub building. I plan to build 2 sealed 15's. I have 1 Dayton Audio 15" Ultimax/flat pack and a ep4000 on the way. I will order another Ultimax kit down the road a bit.
Current parts list:

Dayton Audio 15" Ultimax Subwoofer and Cabinet Package

ep4000

Niles AC3 so I can run it in a different room without the fan mod

Square Speaker Terminal Cup 4" Gold Banana Binding Post -http://www.parts-express.com/square-speaker-terminal-cup-4-gold-banana-binding-post--260-284

Gold 12 AWG 1/4" Female Disconnect 5 Pair-http://www.parts-express.com/gold-12-awg-1-4-female-disconnect-5-pair--095-810

Cast Frame #10-32 Speaker Mounting Kit- http://www.parts-express.com/square-speaker-terminal-cup-4-gold-banana-binding-post--260-284

Now for the noob questions:

I dont really know what I will need to hook these subs up to the ep4000.
what type of cable do I need from the avr to the amp, and then its just standard speaker cable to the sub correct?
how would I wire the amp and sub also? The sub is 2ohm dvc.
Would I run a channel to each sub?

Anything else i am forgetting for the build?
box filler?

Pics on the way once I start the build

You'd wire each driver in series 4-ohm, one on each channel, set the amp to bridge-off and parallel input on.
Then you hook the LFE/Sub out to the EP4k with an RCA to TRS wire/connector.

https://www.parts-express.com/rca-jack-to-1-4-mono-plug-adapter--090-285 or https://www.parts-express.com/1-4-mono-plug-to-2-rca-female-adapter-cable-6--240-162
with a male-to-male RCA cable.

or just https://www.parts-express.com/peavey-pv-5-ft-rca-to-1-4-patch-cable--241-5674

Or if you wanna get real fancy...
https://www.parts-express.com/art-cleanboxpro-stereo-balanced-unbalanced-converter--245-868
https://www.parts-express.com/talent-mc15-microphone-cable-xlr-female-to-xlr-male-15-ft--240-903

If you don't go with the last option, you'll have to set your AVR to maximum LFE/sub output volume, usually +10db or so (if it has that option).

and you'd set the amp to the lowest volume (at first). and you'd do all of this with the power off wink.gif

Thanks for this info, my receiver is a Onkyo 805 if that matters as far as my LFE output.

It's not necessary to set your AVR LFE preout to its max setting, and in fact it can cause problems if it can't provide a clean signal at that level. I would follow the instructions in this post: http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/home-theater-receivers-processors-amps/35677-gain-structure-home-theater-getting-most-pro-audio-equipment-your-system.html

Sounds Good to Me... keeping track of my audio projects.

ok so short term for the single sub I will need:

1 coax from avr to amp
1 1/4 inch mono to RCA plugged into channel 1
then just speaker wire to the sub running on channel 1

future state 2 subs:
1 coax Y split
2 coax cables (each running to a channel on the amp)
2 1/4 inch mono to RCA plugged into channel 1 and 2
speaker wire

You only need 1 RCA to 1/4 mono cable and speaker wire. As BTHz wrote, set parallel input to on. Do this with the dip switches on the back of the amp. This way, one cable will supply both channels.

Getting closer.... I now have the ep4000 and Niles AC3 and...

Sounds great so far the Onkyo 805 put out plenty of signal for the amp but I think i am in need of EQ

now let the questions begin, I am getting a loud thud on powerup and off on both subs, happens with or without an input plugged in. I am using one input for both subs, each sub running from its own channel out of the amp. Here is how I have the dip switches set and my how I have everything wired.

Everything looks good. The thump is a very common issue. There are a few work arounds. It can be annoying though. As a best practice I turn my gain down before powering down and don’t turn it back up until after powering up. It still can be a issue though. Your subs look great! nice job

the amp has on/off muting iirc, so if the receiver is powered up first, there shouldn't be a thump when the amp is turned on or off.

always turn on the amp last and turn it off first.

turn the receiver on first and turn it off last.

Listen. It's All Good.

alright here we go, I am looking at getting the MiniDSP, I think I need the unbalanced 2x4. I am also going to get the mic.
questions:
.9vmrs or 2vmrs?
what do I need to hook this to my 2 subs and ep4000

You want the balanced 2 by 4 MiniDsp, not the unbalanced version as it is stock with only one voltage option which may not play nice with your amp.
