what would most likely be the result of putting a driver in a sealed box that is about 25% to big ?

i have 2 6cf'ish boxs that now hold a 12" each. i want an upgrade, and, i have no experience with sealed subs. i would build proper vented boxs soon, but in the mean time, i am wondering what to expect if i put larger drivers in this box. i am wanting 18's.

thanx

In general, not that much. Sealed designs are pretty forgiving of too much volume. But to be sure just software model the driver/box combination and you'll know.

You could easily decrease the volume by putting bricks, bags of sand or whatever inside the box.

i am looking at either the Stereo Integrity HT 18. or the new Dayton Audio UM18-22 18" Ultimax DVC Subwoofer

i just looked at the SI info. it says = Ported = 5-6 ft^3 tuned to 20 Hz. that is the size of my box's ! but idk what size/shape the port should be.
that would be GREAT if i could reuse my cabinets.

here are my current 12" subs, at my last home. the baffle is right at 18". but perhaps i could put them in the sides.
