This was such a privilege for everyone....and a lot of people realized it...we only had one driver commitment back out...no others.

Blah, when will Mark make the decision as to whether or not he is going to stop at 40 or go further?

In words from his email yesterday at 6:50 PM...you will remain in "the queue" until he gets everything sorted out. If he has sufficient quantities of parts, he will certainly let you in.

At this point, H8, I see you are behind four other driver alternates. It sounds as if Mark is prepared to pass along the Group Buy pricing, at least through your 4 drivers...if he has enough materials. That's a good thing...since the impetus for most people to participate in this thing came from the special pricing.

However, you have a valid question...when will he determine material quantities????...I would imagine soon...and it certainly is reasonable to expect that someone can look at inventory and incoming orders and know what they have to work with in this day and age so that end-users/buyers can make informed purchasing decisions. Good price does not mean anything if he doesn't have enough materials to go past 40 and then won't be able to accommodate you until they are replenished 2-4 months or whatever later. But I don't make these things...what do I know?

If you have a timetable with a degree of immediacy, why not zip him an email and ask at this point? He's been easy to communicate with so far. He has your name as well as btinindy, fr8doggr, and ozziedog.

Wow - Blah we have got to give you props for such a successful and popular group buy! I would not have guessed you would have this much interest in such a short period of time. I will offer my 4 drivers to someone waiting that needs them - probably more than I do. My wife would thank them anyway. smile.gif

Rilla...thanks.
Received your PM.
Less than a week and almost 50 drivers being requested! I was not even able to get my drivers in on the order. I wanted to make sure the other forum members were accommodated first.rolleyes.gif

If you give up your four drivers, that would mean Btinindy....driver #41 and 42 and Fr8doggr....driver #43 and 44...would move into the 40-unit group buy.

This would then move "H8" up to driver alternate #41-44.

It's your call...or one of these fellas could contact Mark today and see if he is good to go covering this and it would all be moot?

I'm good with giving up my position for someone else - but that is CRAZY you are the organizer and have not gotten your drivers in. I would recommend you be first in line. smile.gif

Ha! Thanks.

Rilla...I will contact the first two alternates and see if they want in. I will have them post here if they are.

I initially set this Buy up as a way to give back to the AVS Forum community, and figured I would throw mine on to the end of the order. Oh well.
So...that's the way it goes.

Just hope everyone realizes at this point that they have to do just a wee-little bit of leg work and contact Mark to finalize payment.
If they can't handle that much, then they can give up their spot, eh?

Outside of watching this "alternate" thing...I am just about done...

Take care, sir!

Whoa! First let me say I would love to be "In" on this one and have PM'd you my info, BUT, not at the expense of you not being in. I am happy to give mine up to you for all this effort, without a doubt.

Gorilla83, thanks to you as well for giving up your spots, very nice gesture. Blah, seriously, you have to get yours. Heck, Mark should probably find a way to give you some special gold dipped drivers or something.

How many were you looking to get?

bt---quite seriously, I don't mind. Let me see where everything falls out with this and then I will take it from there. Thanks though...biggrin.gif

You are now driver #37 and 38, sir!

fr8 has been PMed. He would now be 39 and 40...if he wants in still.

H8 has been PMed. He would be 41-44.

ozziedog has been PMed. He would be 45-46.

I have just received an email from Mark stating that he will send a PayPal invoice out to each of you after January 15.

If you are paying him by some other means, such as check or money order, or setting up some sort of skid shipping, you will need to finalize that with him.

Fr8doggr confirmed to move into driver spots #39 and 40 of the original production run of 40 courtesy of Gorilla83.

H8 is definitely at #41-44 and ozziedog is 45 and 46.

I would recommend contacting Mark H8 and ozziedog to see if he will have enough materials. Please let me know if he confirms one way or the other and I will post.

Man Mark sure has his work cut out for him, I know that it takes him 25mins to make a voice coil! And that's with using a CNC coil winder. So with 40 drivers he has over 16hrs of just coil winding eek.gif

Yes, sir.

You used 1800 watts for each UXL driver in model.............shall I assume a Peavey 7500 is preferred over the 5000 for a pair of UXL's?

Will the 5000 not allow the UXL's to reach full potential?

Thanks for the modeling........4 UM-18's model is compelling. Damn.........wish I could have "real world" measurements!

Quad drivers of the UM18 caliber will most definitely beat out dual drivers of the UXL/LMSU caliber. Just gettin' that out there and out of the way. wink.gif

Yeah I used 1,800w because that's what the 5000 outputs per channel at 4ohms. A single 5000 could use up the rest of the excursion if one wanted and could afford buying a second 5000. Most don't.

I think the choice between the two amps should be less about the power difference (it's not that large, maybe 1dB difference) and more about form factor, amp topology type, fan noise, etc.

My Dual 18" LLT subs 120dB down to 10hz

Hey Mark, I know there are a lot of trade secrets when it comes to woofer assembly but it would be cool to get some assembly pics. In other words, something to satisfy us because the wait is going to be torture smile.gif

I'm currently feeding each of my uxl's a full channel from an IPR3-7500 and they're holding together so far. I went for the big amp both because I'd rather have powering reserve than running on the edge and since these subs are only handling the very bottom (5-25Hz or so) and a ton of boost it chews up amp power pretty quick. I get a bit nervous on really heavy scenes that dig deep but so far not even any bad noises. I'll be able to push them even harder when I get my second orbit shifter so I can run them down below 20Hz and have the uxl's just handle an even narrower band. Keep in mind my room is about 15000 ft3 though. I have yet to be able to get a real sound of distress from the UXL's. I have made them sound a bit strained a couple times but nothing to indicate they are really at the limit yet. They are amazing drivers IMO.

Thanks,

You are one lucky guy! Orbital Shifter for >20 hz and UXL's for sub 20 hz.,,.........I'd love to hear that!!!!eek.gif

Orbital shifter is so, so clean! The pair I heard had no distortion to speak off!

I've been a Velodyne DD guy for almost ten years now but LMS-U changed that.
With enough information out there, seems the UXL is a close brotheren to 5400.
Would like to hear your thoughts on distortion levels as you push UXL's with the 7500.

BTW, my room is apx 4300 cf sealed, dampen, on floating floor system..........currently using an S2 which is a great sub.........2 UXL's I'm hoping will do and should integrate well. If not, maybe another S2 up front!
