Hey there, PDX.

You were next on my list...biggrin.gif
Getting caught up over the last few minutes.

Firstly...yes, as I mentioned not very clearly (sorry) earlier in post 143, the ship date was going to be pushed to mid-February (you asked about this back in post 164...just wanted to make sure you had an answer).
I sent a PM to every person who had committed to a driver at that point asking if they wanted to continue with the order despite the minor delay. Thought it was the right thing to do. To the best of my knowledge, no one changed their order.

I saw you and Rebel975 were discussing the shipping.
It is exactly what Mark said, 16 or more drivers going to one location would be palletized.
He also said that IF that allowed for a savings, it would be passed on to the buyer.
He requested you contact him for that exact shipping quote on a pallet.

I would imagine the discount varies depending on ship-to location of pallet via common carrier versus total cost of sending 16 individual packages to same place via UPS/FedEx?

Thanks, Blah. Bummer the ship date has been pushed back. But good for those who needed the time.

I will contact Mark about savings on shipping if we get to a 9-10 driver count in the northwest.

Again- anyone in the PNW willing to do some driving (I'm willing to do some driving too) let me know. If we can get a pallet shipped and save some money that'd be all the better.

1 - Can Mark please confirm what is the shipping weight in metric for a single unit in the box? (Ideally needs to be less than 32kg)
2 - Can anyone confirm if the UXL is a straight drop in for the Dayton? They both state a cut-out of 424mm.

Thanks.

Okay, Nuno.

Mark confirmed one UXL18 has a shipping weight of 72 pounds, or 32 kg.

Cut-out of 16.693 inches, or 424mm.

Outside diameter of 18.5 inches, or 470mm.

Hope that helps you join the Group Buy! biggrin.gif

I emailed mark tonight and asked if I ordered one at regular price if I would get it in a week. I am selling/sold my hsu sub and didn't want to wait 2 months. He said he is low on parts and won't be shipping any uxl18 for a few weeks. So I'm still on the list but going to have to survive with just martysub for awhile . I know , stop whining :sly:

Yes from what I've heard he won't have any magnets till the beginning of February to be able to ship any UXL-18's or FTW-21's.

All this love for the UXL-18 but no comparison to the LMS-5400? Has anyone heard both that could compare the SQ? And no, I don't buy that two, even high quality subs, will sound the same.

Good morning, fellas.

Even if there is or isn't a bit more of a wait than we originally thought, we are still getting an excellent driver at an excellent price.

If you believe this to be the case, please don't hesitate to recommend the group buy to others.

20 more needed.

How would 2 UXL-18s compare to 4 of the new Dayton Ultimax 18s?
I was originally interested in 2 dual-opposed Ultimax setups but now I'm curious how 2 of the UXL18s would compare...

My amp is a Crown XLS5000 which to my understanding should be able to power either setup. Thanks in advance!

Hey Steve.
Member auburnu008 had made his order of 16 contingent on Mark making available a quantity price of $375 per driver.
Mark was unable to lower his already gracious price of $410 shipped, so auburn moved on.

Hey there Interspy.

Since you are looking at dual opposed, you should be able to scroll back a couple of pages and see the fantastic graphs, discussions, and comparisons between a single unreleased, untested Ultimax and a proven/tested UXL and make a reasonably valid (again...only mfr numbers for Ultimax) comparison considering the cabinets. Then just increase the output of either by the same dB for the dual opposed driver set-up in each.

If I am off with this, feel free to weigh in. biggrin.gif

So basically if the UM18 specs out as is then for the very low end where each drivers full xmax is used then 3 UMs would be equal to 2 UXLs (though different power requirements to reach that point), once you move past xmax and go to the limits xmech then things start edging toward being equal. If the UM specs out better than stated by dayton then obviously the dayton will be that much closer. That is for the very low frequencies where the drivers excursion is needed. When you get to higher frequencies then the 3 UMs start walking away from the 2 UXLs. So a 2 to 4 scenario the UM would have more output across all usable sub frequencies but at the expense of more cabinets. No telling distortion comparison as the UM has not been released. I've never heard the UXL, but I've heard it is very nice sounding.

I don't have the space to do a giant horn loading alignment for these things, so I'm planning a simple dual opposed configuration. I'm curious to see how it compares the dual opposed I built awhile back using the LMS Ultras, although with the pushed back date I've been seriously considering trying to swing a third one to build my own riff on the PSA Triax.

FWIW, these are my own models with BB Pro. Red is UXL and blue is LMS with 1000 watts per driver, wired separately. The UXL is in a 4cuft cab and the LMS were modeled in ~5cuft cab not counting bracing and drivers, heavily stuffed.

I think we better wait to see what Ricci findings are before we start to assume this about the UM18-22. What we can say based on what Josh has tested on both the UXL-18 and LMS-5400 is that the UXL-18 starts to have a 2dB advantage over the all mighty TC LMS-5400 above 20hz. wink.gif

Blah - put me down for four of these guys. NO logo on the cap. Im in 100% .. So that makes 24?

Fwiw to others on the fence..... I was up until 4:00 am reading about other options for the next step above a SI or Dayton HO type driver, which by the way I realized are even better HT drivers than I ever thought before, and all things considered the UXL even at full price is the obvious choice for the next level. I found nothing else.

I am not unhappy with my 6 SI s whatsoever. In fact I almost stuck with the plan to add a third near field sub to closer match my four front subs. My choice for upgrading has to do with space and balancing out my front subs with the rear subs, and going to a setup which utilizes the full 7500 watts of my amp.

The FI sp4 maybe..... But theres not a ton of info on it for home theater and after shipping its up there with the OP of the uxl.

Blah- it would be good of you to keep on Mark for accurate updates on delivery time and potential for that getting delayed. Id much rather hear about a delay 3 weeks prior to ship date vs two days before. I understand thats not always possible. But Im sure I speak for most when I say transparency and honesty from Mark would be much preferred over last minute excuses over and over and over.

Thanks for putting this all together and keeping it going. Much appreciated.

There were really no assumptions made. Everything that was said was based on what dayton published as specs, only this speculated was that it could get better. Won't know. But with what has been published everything that I said holds true.

Can you please point me in the direct where It's said that the xmax is 25mm because I can't find it anywhere and the published specs from Daytona's web page says 22mm. So I really have a had time believing that the UM18-22 is going to keep pace with the UXL-18.

If it can I think it would be awesome value at $266per driver. But some how I don't think it can much like I don't think a SPA1000 from Daytona will put out 950watts of clear power @4ohms.

If it can I think it would be awesome value at $266per driver. But some how I don't think it can much like I don't think a SPA1000 from Daytona will put out 950watts of clear power @4ohms.

You should read the original post of mine you quoted. Where did I day that the UM would keep up with the UXL? Based on xmax (which is used only at lowest frequencies) I said that 3 UMs would keep up with 2 UXLs. That statement is true based on the published 22mm xmax. Please do not put words into my mouth. Like I said everything that was stated was based on published specs.

I'll see if I can dig up the info on the larger xmax. I know that Rory from PE posted here stating that their testing methods give their drivers lower xmax specs than conventional testing. Giving a reason of why the HO18 was so underrated.

But please read what you quote before falsely accusing others

Dan

If that came off harsh, sorry wasn't supposed to. Just answering interspy24's question.
