Nick from SI put a post up over on HTS announcing a close-out sale on all remaining HT subs.
15" = $145 + shipping
18" = $162 + shipping

Get 'em while they're hot!

Shipping isn't included which brings them back to ~$200. Wonder if there is a new 15/18 design coming down the pipe or nick just doesn't want to be in that arena competing with dayton/PE (e.g. going more niche)?

I must be guilty because people say I am guilty because they chose to call me guilty because they refuse to see the truth. Much easier to be part of the mob..

Yeah, I checked my receipt from December 2012 when I ordered my first two 18"s; these close-out prices are the same price as the original pre-orders! Shipping has since gone up a couple of dollars though.
If the $162 included shipping, there's no way I could resist!

Start a new side business where you put the woofer in furniture.

Why the close-out sale?!

Are they replacing the line with the HTS version?

I was hoping the HT were going to be in production for a while 'just in case' I killed a driver and needed a spare or wanted to go completely mental and do an 8 driver setup...

I was wondering the same thing. Hope you are right about the HTS being the replacement and they are not closing shop.

With a post like this on their Facebook page 3 days ago I doubt they are going anywhere.

The shipping brings it up to 230 for me so this doesn't seem like much of a deal. I'm tempted though since I was planning on doing 8 of these sealed soon. I'd hate to miss it and end up with something inferior or much more expensive down the road. Decisions like this stress me out.

if that happens just use the dayton HO 18's.... they're nearly identical in real world performance

and the original post sounds like SI is considering pulling out of the HT business... original quote

"Hey guys, we are currently closing out all remaining inventory of our 15" and 18" HT woofers. These models are to be discontinued while we re-evaluate our HT market presence. Our web-site is up to date with the pricing for this sale :

15" = $145 + Shipping
18" = $162 + Shipping

So if you are interested in these it is your last chance to pick them up (and at a discount)! We have several hundred of the 18's available but just over 100 total 15's available. This pricing will run until we sell out of these drivers."

This is like ebay pricing . Drop the price and raise shipping cost. Not really a deal.

Ok, this is confusing. Their facebook page implies they are looking forward to a great 2014 while this post sounds like they are definitely going out of business. eek.gif

i think from conversations over there that they're thinking of re-evaluating just the home theater side of the business.

Yeah my WAG would be that, if anything, they are getting out of the "solid yet dirt cheap drivers" business in favor of higher-end offerings. In fact I can think of worse business strategies than to make a splash/test the market with budget 15s and 18s, then take it to another level. All unfounded supposition of course.

that's my suspicion too. they're going for higher end, higher markup drivers vs. the budget models... makes sense really

Atabea, I emailed Nick at SI this afternoon to ask if there would be any shipping discount for a pallet load. I'm in Rochester and was thinking about a kind of CNY/WNY "group buy". I'll let you know if I hear anything back. Maybe if we can drum up 16 drivers worth or so, we could all meet in the middle and save a few bucks.

Haha. Lots of speculation here. We are NOT going out of business. Let's just get that out of the way. Far from it.

Am I happy and proud that the HT line beat the nearby competition? Yes, very happy. However, I am being pulled many different directions and can only wear so many hats. We are a small company and we must focus on doing what affords us to stay in business. Unfortunately the HT series is not one of those things.

Some of you have mentioned that the pricing is close to our initial pre-order a long time ago. By our records it is the exact pricing we offered to begin with. Unless you live on the west coast the new close-out pricing should be a considerable amount less expensive than, for instance, last month's pricing. Once the remaining HT series woofers are sold off they will not be coming back.

We have plenty of parts to rebuild the HT woofers. PLENTY of parts. Don't worry about not being able to fix your HT woofer if it gets damaged. We can rebuild them. biggrin.gif

I will also not be persuing the HST series for full production. I had entertained doing a small limited production run of HST woofers that I could build over the course of a few days but I am still undecided on whether or not I'll do that.

I fought hard with my business partner to keep the HS 24 instead of canning it and selling off all of the raw parts. I will be keeping the 24" woofer for SI and it will continue to be able to be purchased on our web page. I personally hand-build each HS 24" and I enjoy doing so very much. I almost shed a tear when one gets packed up and shipped out. tongue.gif
