There are a few guys that keep talking about these "concerns" , but nobody will say what. I know they aren't to do with the build quality of the woofers it's just weird that no one will come out and say why they have such strong feelings against Si. I think it would be helpful for others to know just what is meant.

In any event, hope you enjoy what you decided on and look forward to seeing your impressions

So the SI 24 has 7.7 liters of displacement (1 way xmax) at the cost of $800 or $104/liter
The Si 18 has 2.7 liters of displacement (1way xmax) at the cost of $162 or $85/liter

I know that D4s aren't available, so think back to when they were, but for less money, why not get 3x Si18 and wire D4 in series/ then parallel them for 2.7 ohms, or even 4x and series parallel D2s for 4 ohms (which are available)
Still cheaper, more displacement, I think similar sealed volumes and less thermal compression on the VCs.

Is there something special about the 24's vs the 18s (or 15's for that matter) besides shear size (which, I'll grant you, is pretty ****ing amazing and awe inspiring lol)

Aaahhhhhh.... yup! smile.gifbiggrin.gif

So yeah, they're just bigger than a smaller driver. What makes an 18" so cool? Cuz it's bigger than a 15" driver. tongue.gif More displacement from a single motor. Whether that is good or bad to you is up to..... umm..... you. wink.gif

That's the way I went but wired for less power. Dual trio of SI's wired for a 6 ohm final load. Less excursion while allowing them to motor along in my small 2,200 cf room. smile.gif

usually, it is the case that larger drivers offer better displacement value. That doesn't seem to be the case here. The multiple 18's are better value, suffer less thermal compression, and would help with evening out room modes. I can see a 24 winning out if you want a single in a smaller cube where you don't have the baffle surface area to work with. But if you want multiple 24's or can accommodate the surface area, I don't see the point.

I believe Nick has said that the price is going up on the SI 24 to $1000, so soon it'll be $130/liter.

Yup. Agreed. You aren't going to see a ton of +2 24" installs. Most DIY'ers are on a budget.

Even my crazy system represents an insane value/performance ratio. I'd even wager that it has the highest value/performance ratio to anything else on AVS.
