It's not that I couldn't live with things the way they are, but I will be adding/building two large sonotubes plus two Marty Cubes in the near future. After that, I think I will be more than covered for a while. I bought one of atabea's XV15s. I just sold it and am in the process of getting two cubes. Chalugadp is shipping me a couple of flatpacks today smile.gif

You are SOOO correct. We are not normal. I haven't even finished my 2 18s yet and yesterday my wife said I need to make her or get her a sofa table to go in back of the sectional so we can set our drinks down. I immediately started thinking, since I will have 2 18s in the front corners maybe a single 18 in the back behind us might be a nice fill. Maybe get another SI 18 before they are gone. Its addicting. I had a neighbor walk by last night when I was applying the duratech and he fell in love, I think I have him talked into a 15, 18 was too much for him. biggrin.gif

So to those of you that think the Marty Cube is too big, I present to you with the mini-marty cube. LTD or Chaluga can you guys run the numbers on this one to see how it will compare to the 18" SI subs?biggrin.gif

My teenage son made these for me in his CAD 2 class. (In Highschool) I had Oregon Trail and floppy discs in school. He has CAD2 and a 3D printer.

Go to the very first post in this thread and there's a graph with the SI 18 and UXL-18.

Well I just did a little testing with the uxl18 even though its not fully broken in yet. The sims were accurate . An extra 3-4 dbs across the board. 20 hz output with uxl cube is same as full marty with si18 . It feels like it pushes more air out of the port (not measured)

As for sound so far the uxl is definitely more ... hard to describe but even more effortless , deep. Is it worth the extra dough , too early to tell but it sure is impressive .

The martys are in the house. Brought them in this evening. Plugged everything in and played a few songs and videos. This is the not their final resting place. I will be moving them to the front as soon as I get my front stage figured out. I will either be making or buying a new L/C/R set. I really like the way they look recessed and with the caps on the screw holes. I only had one hooked up and it already sounds amazing, can't wait to hook up the second one.

One question I have. Should I do any testing right now with them? I have a mic, the DSP on the amp and can download REW software. Should I test the subs now and set the PEQ on the inuke or wait until they are in their final resting place? What test should I do?

I cannot even being to thank everyone here for all the help, LTD, Donny, Steve, Atabea and many more. I really appreciate all the help guys, I know us newbies can be a pain sometimes but we enjoy this as much as you guys do and hope to one day help out just as much. Thank You!

"So does anyone see any issues doing something similar to this with my build when I do it? I like the idea of downfiring because I have small kids and don't want them to go poking and playing around with the new speaker...ever! hahahaha...I will be using the SI 18 D2, I am assuming it doesn't have any issues with sagging in a downfiring configuration?

I haven't decided to do this for sure yet...I may just do the standard cube, inset the driver and make a speaker cover for it too ...that seems to keep them from messing with my currents subs.."

because the port is firing into the floor, the tuning **may** come in a single hz or so lower, no biggie.

it appears to be a great design and i'm sure that we will see more like it!

iirc i ran the numbers on the si18 and it came out right at 5% which should be fine as far as concerns about "sag".

Go ahead and start testing . It takes awhile to figure it out so start the education . I measured the second sub and the peaks were the same at 40hz and 70 hz. Did some dsp and have it pretty flat from 20-90hz.

Love having two subs again . Just feels better :sly:

Donny, these Marty cubes definitely bring out the max in the uxl-18 for spl!! Now do my recess and send me the flat pack!! Lol
Just kidding...no rush as I won't be able start till end of the month anyway.
I have heard that the uxl-18 is more excursion limited than voice coil limited as the voice coil can take over 3000 watts!!! No other 18" subwoofer will do as well in the Marty cube from currently available drivers and 2200 watts!! For what you paid in the group buy, you guys got a steal of a deal!! SI-18 will soon be out of production...

Thanks Blue, I do too. Before I started this venture I was told that for a few hundred dollars I would have a subwoofer that would rival the $2K woofers. I kind of thought, it might make my Klipsch subs feel weak but never a $2K subs. I was wrong. I would put any this sub against almost any other sub out there that I have heard. I know there is better but none that I would be able to afford, let alone build. I love it!!!

Love having two subs again . Just feels better :sly:

When you test, you are only testing the sub not the entire system right?

As you can tell, the folks who hang around here are not normal people and you will soon learn there is no such thing as "enough" bass in these parts.

You had to go there...now ya got me thinking. However instead of selling my XV15's, I might order 3- SI 15 D4's, make block off plates for the plate amp, and get a Inuke 6000 to power them.

yes, running 20-90hz test tones. It only took me about 15 minutes to get it dialed in. I will do it again in a few days just to make sure the fully breaking in process doesn't change the numbers.
